Publisher's Summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Jeaniene Frost lives with her husband and their very spoiled dog in Florida. Although not a vampire herself, she confesses to having pale skin, wearing a lot of black, and sleeping in late whenever possible. And while she can't see ghosts, she loves to walk through old cemeteries. Jeaniene also loves poetry and animals but fears children and hates to cook. She is currently at work on the next novel in her best-selling Night Huntress series.

What the Critics Say

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

    "Great Book!"

One of the best series, I've ever heard! I have since started to read the books and am even getting around to reading shorts that Jeaniene has written.
For those who get a kick out of English Accents, this book has two great accents.
Tavia's Bones (Crispin) is just great! I got a kick out of Spade's (Charles) accent too. For those who didn't get the accents - I'm fron London, England and I found Bones' accent authentic. The changes of accent were really good.
Jeaniene Frost is a fantastic writer, but I have found other authors that i have loved and the narration has ruined the book for me.
Please don't change this narrator - she does an excellent job.
Jeaniene can't wait for the next book!

"OMG! Not my normal cup of tea, but crikey!"

I downloaded this book on a lark, a try at something different than my normal fare. I am now going after 2 & 3! Unbelievable. I stuck it in my mind that this was "just" a vampire novel, one good against the rest, I totally missed the erotic romance part of the description, however, there was so much action going on it just flowed so that you got it, but it wasn't the most central thing. What a writer! Jeaniene Frost puts true depth into her characters, adds humor to the point that I actually had a belly busting laugh in quite a few spots! I rooted for the lead characters, I actually cared what happened to them. Several times I was on the edge of my seat, listening to what would happen next, and I can tell you, that wouldn't have been to easy if it wasn't for the narrator Tavia Gilbert. Her reading of this book brought life to the characters, you could actually "see" them in your minds eye, you could relate to their problems, the mental picture she paints with her style and intonations, inflections and emotion was superb!
I have been a member for three years, I read reviews, but really don't write them. After hearing this book, I couldn't help myself, I thought it was THAT good.
Get it, listen to it, you won't be sorry.

    "A decent, fun read"

I like to run and listen to audiobooks. Keeps me distracted from the fact that I don't like running. I don't need great literature, I just need an engaging story. This fit the bill. I'll admit that the narrator's voice for Bones almost made me stop listening early on, but I'm now three books in to the series and it has kind of grown on me. Plus the narrator does a good job of having different voices for different characters making each decently distinguishable. As for the story, it's a good pulpy read. Good enough that I've continued on to other books in the series and am really enjoying them (listening even when not running just to find out what happens next). Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. This isn't Tolkien, so just enjoy it for what it is.

"We have time to kill, lets just have sex!"

Every book I pick up lately.
It's like the author needs some filler so the characters have the longest, most descriptive sex imaginable. Do you remember every moment? Cause if you do, you're doing it wrong. It's not supposed to be like a baseball game's play-by-play.
'Gone With The Wind', it's a brick of a book. You know Scarlet and Rhett have Bonny but do they have to tell you how that happened or do the few steamy embraces give your imagination enough content?
I gave up on the Merry Gentry series because it was a good plot in the beginning, then it turned into sex and how many words you can throw into it to make it go on, and on, and on. Let's throw in kinky, with other kinds of beings: vampire, fae, changelings, demons, angels... uhm. ENOUGH.
I hate movies where regardless of danger the characters decide to have a long meaningful talk while something is eating the population, or the time on the bomb is ticking down, or some other ridiculous event is happening. They took that stupid plot device, and put in sex, as often as possible with any and all characters. It's become like a competition between authors of just how kinky and long they can make it-is there a contest on how many pages they can drag it on through?
Give us a story, not a porn flick.

This book kept me on my toes and the characters are wonderful, but it wouldn't be the same without the wonderful reader you have found for us all.

    "Series has become a favorite"

This definitely has a Buffy (The Vampire Slayer) hooks up with Spike feel. The beginning seemed very childish, although the scene and topics weren't. Midway it did seem to get better. Narrator won't be on my favorite list but she's not on my avoid list either. Will give book 2 a chance to change my opinion.

    "Fabulous Series"

I am thrilled with Jeaniene Frost's books and I cant seem to get enough of them.. The narrater Tavia Gilbert does a fabulous job of making you feel like you are sitting and watching a movie not listening to a book. I highly recommend the Night Huntress World and The Night Huntress Series. Just love them. A very satisfied listener.. :)

"Buffy and Spike for grown ups ?"

Sure it may be very 'Buffy & Spike' but thats not all bad. I liked this book! Loved the story, loved the characters and the concepts of this urban fantasy are awesome. But the big seller is the narrator - one of the best narrators i have ever heard. Ms Gilbert's narration sold me on getting the whole series and I have loved everyone.
