Publisher's summary

Dragon love burns bright - can she survive the flames?

Graeme made his way to Serenity for one very specific, and hopefully deadly, reason, but a few friendly wolf shifters on the Serenity Police Department almost made him reconsider his centuries-old death wish. His body, however, remembers it well, acting upon it when he is unable.

Heather Herrin has just received news that threatens to change everything for her, but when she sees a half-naked beast of a man in a hospital bed, he takes center stage in her thoughts, giving her some relief. Until he runs hot then cold so often she almost gives up on him, having no way of knowing he's someone that will make her entire life make sense.

Are Graeme's reasons for turning down what he thought he'd never be blessed to have enough to keep them apart? Or will Heather manage to break through his walls in time to save them both?

Great read and listen..

I liked the way the first book started but I really didn’t like the way this started out. The author made Heather sound just like a pyromaniac. Like she got sexually excited while she watched a fire. And then she started a building on fire but it was a while before you knew the building was abandoned and what the burning twigs said. Up until chapter 8 I was beginning to wonder if I was going to finish this book but I decided to go forward to see what happens. Heather’s feelings for fire sure should have been written different. I felt like this story was taken from a TV program about a criminal who liked watching the fires he started. I knew the book would change directions but it was just unbelievable how the author made Heather look in the beginning.

Overall, it turned out to be a good story. Graeme’s story was sad and exciting. And the way he threw the wolves around because they got to close, or touched Heather, was funny. He tried not to want his one true mate but he couldn’t stand anyone else to be near her either.

I really liked the players: Wade, Trevor, Ellie and Mac. Khain is just scary and evil. And Heather’s mother, Judith, was an awful person.

There was explicit sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 26 times.

As to the narration: Michael Pauley did a great job. Much better than the first book. He read with emotions throughout the entire book. His men’s voices were all different and his women’s voices were almost perfect, mostly all sounding sweet and feminine.

Improved narration

The story line is terrific. The narrator has calmed some and delivers a performance better than that of book 1. Michael Pauley demonstrates better control and more realistic tone and inflection. With book 1, early on I considered not finishing. I am now looking forward to the next installment of the series. Kudos to Lisa Ladew and well done Michael Pauley.

Good story; awful narration

The story was standard for the genre, but it was entertaining and well written. I liked the heroine a little better than in the first, but again the narrator ruined my ability to connect with the heroine because she sounded so incredibly weak and whiny. I think I'm done with the audible books and will read the rest of the series. The narrator has become intolerable.

Scottish Dragon Heat

I liked the first book, I loved this one. There are so many good things that Lisa Ladew does in this second novel. First, I love the characters she's built in this world - primary and secondary. There are so many likable characters that you want to dig in and know them all which is super valuable in a series. Ms. Ladew takes it a step further, however, and doesn't spend the entire novel's time on the singular couple. You actually get to see the couple from the last book a little deeper and a little further down the road as well as a good glimpse at future stories. I LOVE that. The focus of this book isn't on those side stories, of course, but this book is bigger than just the one couple. That's different than most romance series and it was a welcome change. I'm also so happy she hasn't abandoned Trent and Troy as important characters. I want the series to evolve into a book for one of them. They are so lovable.

I also like that the conflict wasn't the same, but they did have similar enough themes that they made sense. I get very bored in a series when it appears to be the same story over and over with the names changed. This was a different angle, different conflict, different characters. It made it fun to listen to.

The narration was good, as well. The Scottish brogue was improved and not cheesy which is always a fear of mine when there's a strong accent in the book. I am starting to really appreciate Michael Pauley. One of his biggest strengths is the ability to do realistic, not overly dramatized, plentiful male voices that are still distinguishable.

I highly suggest you pick up the novel. It's a great edition to the series.

Great story and much improved performance

This was a great story by Lisa Ladew, though not my favorite in terms of conflict and character development. Michael Pauley is much improved from the robotic monotoned monstrosity of the first book in the series. Maybe he got lessons or just listened to some feedback, but whatever he did, it worked. Now I can look forward to the rest of the series instead of balancing the risk of ear trauma to the benefit of hearing a good love story.
