Publisher's summary

The loss of control. The fear of desire. Allie always thought that mysteriously sexy rancher Caleb Johnson wanted her as much as she wanted him. But since he never acted on it, she was ready to admit defeat. Until the night she was attacked by a vicious wolf, only to be rescued by another. In the triumphant, bloodied male, there was something Allie recognized - the baritone growl, the mesmerizing eyes, the inexplicable animal attraction. Her savior was Caleb.

A rogue vampire living with his three equally rogue brothers and the McClaren werewolf pack, Caleb never wanted to bring the woman he secretly desired into his dark and dangerous world. But when she's targeted by his enemies, his only choice is to protect her. But how can someone as alive, as vulnerable, as human as Allie survive in the shadows with him?

Potential was never quite realized

I liked the story although I wish they would have explained the back story of why there were so few female vamps. But the dialog was so meandering and mostly meaningless. Listening to them talk was so repetitive and aimless, going over the same ideas over and over with nothing happening. I also didn't care for the male voice...instead of sounding like a cowboy he sounded like he was about 70 years old, I got used to it, but still, every once in awhile I'd get an old man's face in my mind. But the story was kind of interesting so maybe I'll try the next one.

Excellent Book - Sarah McCarty is Amazing!

Would you consider the audio edition of Caleb to be better than the print version?

Yes, I don't have time to stop and read a print version with my busy life. It is easy to multitask and listen to story when doing things that don't require my full attention but still need to get done. I get lost in my stories and Tavia is by far my favorite narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Caleb?

How Allie rescued Caleb even though she was scared to death. She is a women of honor even though was she terrified. She never stopped helping the one she loved.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

She is outstanding. The way she moves between characters with ease. She is one of the best narrators there is. Making every story she reads literally come alive!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Caleb

Beyond Annoying Heroine

If you could sum up Caleb in three words, what would they be?

Patience beyond belief

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The heroine needs to be about 100% less argumentative, 100% smarter, and 50% less whining and annoying. How do you argue with beings 200+ years old when you are 20 something? Seems like they know a thing or two or three? She was beyond annoying and stupid at times.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Love Tavia Gilbert. The Jeaniene Frost series seals the deal. She gets is right every time.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't laugh or cry, just got annoyed by the utter stupidty of the heroine.

Any additional comments?

I still see promise in the series and look forward to reading the others. The overall storyline remains intriguing.

Has Sarah gone off the boil?

I got sooooooooo excited when I realised there was another Sarah McCarty series to folllow so gladly gave up a credit. I did NOT love this one and it's put me off the rest of the series. While I managed to get through the book at times I was bored with it as I just did not bond with the characters as I had with main charaters of the first 4 Hells Eight guys.

Sarah hasn't let me down yet.

After reading the Hell's Eight Series and then reading a few of the reviews for Caleb, I was tentative. I am glad I decided to see for myself. The story was great! I am an action junkie and love great sex scenes so Sarah's books always give me exactly what I need to keep wanting more!

This book had a great story and great characters. This is the first vampire book I've read/listened to and it was more than I hoped for.

The narrator did a great job. I thought her voice seperated the characters well and portrayed Allie as a high strung, I can do it my self, don't mess with me type of girl.

I absolutely love the sense of humor or lack there of in the characters and I can't wait to start Jared!

Thank you Audible, Tavia. Keep writing Sarah!

Better than I expected

This book is quite different than the other Sarah McCarty books I have read. There is a great storyline and plot, and is not predictable like many paranormal-romance stories. The lead female, Allie, is a bit irritating at times but overall is a good contribution to the story. I wish this was narorated by a man or a female with a broader male character range. It seems like Caleb's voice should be low and smooth, but it comes off as a small man's gritty voice. Allie would have been less irritating if she would have been portrayed with a calmer voice. Seems like she is always in a tizzy, which is unnecessary. That did not deter me from listening to the whole story. I will read Jared soon hoping it will be as good as this one.

Holy disapointment

Should have read more of the reviews. Great author but this story was a bit of a let down. I found the female lead character so annoying I could only listen for 2 hours before I quit. I found the character's personality so annoying I had to quit.

Surprisingly I LOVED IT!!!!

I've read (well listened to) all the Hells Eight books from this author and I absolutely loved them. After reading some of these reviews I had a little resistance, but I really loved this book and can't wait to read the next one.
