Publisher's Summary

Once a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy gray underground of the city for the angels. But it's not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman - it's the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.

Now, someone has put a bounty on her head....

Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael's private guard, and he's as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly's. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself-because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening....

No one is safe.

    "Fading a Bit"

The good news is that we don't have to suffer through any "drip, drip, drips," or insufferable Jeffrey vignettes. But, there remains the "not anything remotely human," descriptors when all of these characters act exactly like humans. And we still have a lot of "fisted" hands and unfortunate and awful personal histories. There is also the worn out theme of "I could snap your neck, but I really won't" because underneath all this ridiculous macho bluster I do love you, etc. The scene of Holly wrestling with the entity really got tiresome and I sped up the narration. Still, I like these two leads. The problem is that after a multitude of books and several series, fresh ideas seem hard to come by. I do give the author credit; continual world-building is not easy. Now, it would be interesting to have an exploration of one of the Legion (not the entire group--that would be weird), or Aodhan or Illium (but not together, please). And I would like it if Michaela went away. She comes across as incredibly stupid and does nothing as far as being a female role model. Maybe bring in other sleeping ancients. What is Alexander going to do now? Xi could be a lead and bring down the Archangel of Asia, who has really worn out her welcome. Despite the gripes, I'll listen to the next one.

    "Viper as the Avenging Angel?"

Great addition to the series and a love story for Viper. Thou if you are looking for this to explain how Viper came to be on his personality, you will be disappointed. This is a great action/suspense story. It does leaves a basic question open in what he did in his maker's court? His mystery, even thou told in first person, still intact. Why is Viper the way he is? Where is his bone deep sorrow? Compared to the other Seven he is a baby and should be more light hearted. Overall still a great listen the narrator is still one of my favorites.

    "***5 ‘Menace & Trouble’ Stars***"

Here are a couple of truth’s before starting this review.

    I’m a total fangirl of Nalini Singh’s.
The Guild Hunter series is that series I listen too at least twice a year.
I’ve listened to Archangel’s Viper three times in a row and will probably continue to listen to it a few more times before my mind decides to give it a rest.

So with all of that stated it’s pretty obvious that I absolutely ADORED this book and all that happened in it, even crazy parts, but then again I knew I would. Ever since seeing Holly and Venom together in Archangel’s Blade I had that gut feeling that they would make the perfect, snarky, ‘other’ pair...as long as they didn’t kill each other in the process and when it was announced that there were going to be each other’s mates I swear I did a full on happy dance and I wasn’t disappointed in any way. It was all kinds of snarky and sassy fun with a huge dose of heart and drama that could only work in the intricate and deadly world of the Guild Hunter.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Holly I got to know in this book because when we last spent any time with her she was still pushing boundaries and trying to come to terms with what Uram had done to her and what her future would hold. In AV, she is still working on coming to terms with it, but she is more focused and grounded and not lashing out like a hormonal teenager. The snark and sass are still presented, and I thank the powers that be that they were, but I loved seeing the compassionate and thoughtful side of the woman who had a purpose beyond simple survival.

While I’ve always been intrigued with Venom, I will admit that it never got to the same level as that of Bluebell and Sparkle because while I loved his verbal barbs the emotional gut punch was never there to learn more about him but that all changed with this book. I was totally sucked into the vortex that is Venom. I loved how he never pulled his verbal punches and how much of the time they weren’t meant to wound, but to force their target to acknowledge the truths that he could see much more clearly than others expected and ones they were trying to avoid. But more than that it was the opportunity to finally get to see the heart that lay behind the sunglass and viper’s eyes, because that heart was much more compassionate and genuine than I ever thought possible.

As for their journey to their HEA. I expected the snark and was very happy that even as their antagonistic relationship evolved it that aspect never went away, but changed with them. What I was surprised by, pleasantly so, was the mutual respect they gave each other and how much they simply enjoyed being in the others company. That made it so easy to see how well they fit together and really needed to spend eternity with one another because there really was no one else in the world that could put up with either one of them. Their romance is a slow build one, but absolutely satisfying in every way possible.

I loved hanging out with the unique and crazy cast of characters that make up the Guild Hunter world whether they be members of the Seven, the Guild or those that are aligned with them in a mish mash of ways. It was fun to get a deeper understanding of the ties that bind them all together and getting updates on almost everyone. I’m quite interested to see where Ms. Singh will take the series with the way that both Archangel’s Heart and Archangel’s Viper ended since a couple of main storylines have been either ended or at least paused for now. I, like most, am dying for Bluebell and Sparkle to get there own books, but I’m all for making sure it’s the right time for their stories to be revealed.

As for the narrator, Justine Eyre. She is absolutely fabulous. I love the cadence and tenor of her voice and how she brings each character to life. She is spot on with each accent she performs and truly brings the emotions the characters are feeling to life.

    "Love Venom & Holly!!!"

    REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly
    NUMBER OF HEARTS: 5
Holly and Venom’s story is one of heartbreak and healing! I loved every minute of it. It was great to get to know Venom better and learn more about his history. It was heartbreaking to learn more about all the Holly had to survive from her attack. But these two together were great!! The banter between Holly & Venom had me cracking up. While Archangel’s Viper really focused on Holly’s journey to health. Her journey would not have gone smoothly without a certain viper by her side.

As always I let the amazingly talented Justine Eyre read this story to me. Ms. Eyre so talented with her ability to have so many voices she can lend to this series. I love being able to listen to an audiobook and just know who is talking even without the author telling me. I always look forward to listening to Ms. Eyre.

You know what the worst thing about a Nalini Singh book is? The end!! Where there are no more pages in my book for me to read!! **insert wailing sob** The end of every book breaks my heart because my current journey in this world is over, but then excitement bubbles up because I know that the next book is on the horizon! I can not wait to see who is next in the Guild Hunter Series (fingers crossed for Illium &/or Aodhan)

    "Let Down"

I love this series so much and everything I've read by Mrs. Singh; however, I was very let down my Venoms story.

This story did not significantly tie into the overall arching story. Which might of been fine if it had been supplemented with a more interesting/detailed journey of Venom and Holly. I've been waiting over a year for this book to come out and am disappointed with the results. But I still love this series and plan to continue supporting her work.

    "Greart story"

I am a fan of the Guild Hunter series. Nalini has one flaw in her stories she starts out having the people that will fall in love as hating or as protagonist in the beginning of the plot.
I enjoy the plots of the book. And how she keeps most of the ending in suspense till the very end. It makes the listening more enjoyable.

    The stories are very engaging.

"Venom sounds like he's got throat cancer"

I've been faithfully reading and rereading every Guild Hunter book from the first to the last character and have the Audible version for each of them. Unfortunately, Justine Eyre made a very unfortunate decision about Venom's voice: The smooth, elegant character sounds like his throat is ruined, all scratchy and rough, not seductive and smooth as described in the books of the series. I'm not even complaining that he's got not even a hint of the melodic Indian speech pattern--but the voice turns me off so badly that I have limited myself to reading the book instead of the "total immersion" of reading and listening . My ire about his voice distracts me enough to impact the enjoyment of the story which is unfortunate.

"Brutalized, Holly seeks her fate, dead or alive."

Not as strong as her other Hunter books. Still enjoyed it. No usual 5 star this time. Do Read the Series in sequence. This is Sorrows story, who reclaimed her name ( Holly). After a brutal attack from a now dead Archangel.( Urem) She meets a kindred spirit in Vennom. The two try to solve her internal taint which Urem placed inside prior to his destruction.Irritation turns into love with Vennom. Their ultimate goal to live/love/play.... eternally ever after. It is defiantly a Holly and Vennom story.
