Publisher's Summary

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best - but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option - even if the task is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other - and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

"Best of the Best kinda writing"

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review for one my favorite books of all times... but here I go...

First, Elana P. Devaroux is one of the best female characters I have ever had the pleasure to read/listen about... She is tough as nails, but fragile at the same time.. Nalini Singh is an instant download author for me simply because of Elana.

Now, the book is the first book in the Guild Hunters Universe... where Elana who is working for the Guild Hunters is request to perform a hunt for none other, Raphael, the Arch Angel of New York, one of the 10 highest Angelic beings in existence...

So what does Elana do... of course she agrees... but with stipulations, as the attraction to the Arch Angels is through the roof, but alas, Raphael is one scary m..f'er...

This book is great in introducing the reader to the world of Arch Angels... yet keeping you on your toes with the mystery of will Elana get the bad guy... and will Raphael get Elana... and how does one be intimate with a scary Arch Angel...??? The questions will leave you reeling in this book, but don't fret...because book 1-6 are on Audible, so simply go the the next in series... it only gets better..

However, I still love this book, as this is were it all begins... and no matter how many times I re-read/listen to this book, I find something new about the story every single time...

This is so worth a credit, buy or sale... this is a must have book for any paranormal romance lover...

Narration was simple superb! Justine Eyre simply must continue to do this series, as no one else can be Elana or Raphael, or even creepy Leiwan for that matter...

Now... go off and buy the entire series my little padiwons!!!

    Which scene was your favorite?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not all angels lead to heaven

"Excellent Book 1 and Series Intro"

Excellent start to another creative series. Singh has created an alternate world where Angels are at the top of the food chain, then vampires, then humans. Elena is a Hunter-Born, an inherited skillset making her the best hunter in the Guild to hunt & retrieve vampires who break their contracts, or kill rogues. The Archangel Raphael is a member of the Cadre of Archangels, and rules over No America; headquartered in NY. He contracts with the Guild for Elena to work with him to track a special, incredibly dangerous, quarry. The suspense of the hunt, the attraction between the two, and an interesting supporting cast of characters make for an enjoyable read. Eyre does a very good job with the narration. Recommend print or audio.

    "Sooo good!"

Sooo good!! 1st in the series but doesn't end on a cliffy. Could be a standalone. You can stop at this one or choose to go on.

    "It's ok"

I will purchase the second book with the hope that it's better then the first. The ending was good and the beginning was boring. I spent the first half not caring about the lead... it felt rushed. I'm also not a huge fan of the narrator but I'm coming off of 16 books read by Robert Petkoff so my expectations may be too high.

    "Nope"

I really wanted to enjoy this book I listened for about 5 hours and literally nothing happened. I loved the interaction between archangels and vampires and how vampires were born but that's about it. I held on hoping for something, but got nothing. Even the interactions between the main characters are awkward. Sorry but no.

    "Slow"

The story started out kinda slow and Rafael being such a douche I really didn't like him, I wasn't really into the evil hero. However I trudged on and listen to the full novel and have to say I am pretty satisfied with the end of this book. I am excited to listen to the other audibles of this series.

    "Reading series again"

I just love this series so much I thought I would listen to it again.

Nalini Singh has paired with Justine Eyre and has brought the series to life. Audible books are a wonderful way to enjoy reading. I just start a book, close my eyes and I am brought to amazing new places.

"Performance makes me reluctant to listen to book 2"
Would you try another book from Nalini Singh and/or Justine Eyre?

The story wasn't too bad. It was predictable, but not unbearable. This is my first Justine Eyre book and I don't think I will be seeking her out anytime soon. Very dry reading with no emotion. It made it difficult for me to believe the personalities of the characters, especially the connection between Elena and Raphael.

How could the performance have been better?

I am use to books like The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Anita Blake, and the Night Huntress Series. I wouldn't even know where to begin with making this better.
