Publisher's Summary

Payton Kendall and J. D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J. D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face-to-face, they're perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they have kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as coworkers for one reason only: To make partner at the firm.

But all bets are off when they're asked to join forces on a major case. Though apprehensive at first, they begin to appreciate each other's dedication to the law - and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection does not last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it's an all-out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar...

Perfect blend of romance and humor!

My current reading list has consisted of mostly dystopian/paranormal books and this was such a nice getaway. Julie James has the best method of blending together humor and romance without it getting overly cheesy. I found myself on more than one occasion busting out laughing and just giggling away at this book. It was the perfect light read to break up the monotony of my somber reading list!

this is my go to book

I absolutely love this story -the characters, the whit, the beginning, the ending and everything in between. I read this book a few years ago and have easily reread or listened to it at least 20 times since. JD was my very first BB! very few have compared since. if I had to critique it in anyway I would love for Julie James to rerelease this with current info -- not that I don't like it now - but I would love this story to connect with new readers/younger readers and it would need to be changed up from the early Oprah days. Thank you Julie for helping me love to read again!

"Hey" To be Determined

Where does Practice Makes Perfect rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This story is one of the best in the series. Lots of humor and quick thinking.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Payton, knows how to laugh off a bad situation!

Which scene was your favorite?

court room, when heel breaks...fast quick thinking and humor. When Payton has to give up
dairy for a month.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Let the better Lawyer win.

Any additional comments?

Julie James and Karen White make a great team. Ms White knows how to read Ms James work so well. You will get all the books in this series. These are romances with a legal background, but still romance stories.

Worth a credit? 👍🏻

This story is a fun “enemies to lovers” romance. The hero and heroine are lawyers both vying for a partnership at the law firm where they’ve both worked for eight years. After an unfortunate misunderstanding, they become involved in a feud/prank war that quickly gets out of hand, but will soon have you laughing. At one point, I wasn’t sure if there would be any romantic scenes in this book except for the fact that there is a lot of sexual tension between the pair. This story is sizzling and sexy without being too dirty. IMHO, I say go ahead and use that credit and enjoy!

Enemies to lovers

I'm a little sad to say this book was just ok for me. I jumped right into this book after binge reading/listening to the FBI/US Attorney series and I think maybe I should have taken some time in between books. ALL books are in the enemies to lovers trope and I think maybe too much of the same thing came into play here. By the time I got to this book, the bickering between characters wasn't as funny and seemed more childish. I did enjoy it more when the couple finally moves past the enemies part, but that's not until the last quarter of the book.

I borrowed all books on the Audible Romance Package and highly recommend the audio books. Karen White narrates every book and she really did a great job with each one. She is now added to my favorite narrator list!

The narrator is nasal and nauseating

Seriously, the story line could have been resolved in 2 chapters. The voice of the main character was slow, nasal, monotone and intimated a 90 year old woman that had a sad life. The only redeeming character voices were when the narrator did the other voices. I know this is an old narration and the series does get better. Authors in the future are going to have to have a say in the narrator, just like the voice overs in animated movies. Step up your game!

Meh

The story line was really interesting, but I felt like it was really slow to get to the good stuff and even then felt it was slightly dull.
