A blind date goes deadly on a night she'll never forget!

Kate Sikes has it all: She's smart and sexy, she has a great career, and she really does believe in happy endings - only she always picks the wrong guys. Nonetheless, she's determined to meet the man of her dreams, and she believes she's finally found the one when she turns to Online dating. However, her high hopes are once again dashed when Mr. Right turns out to be Mr. Wrong, with some seriously heavy baggage that has Kate running for her life.

When Detective Walker Pruett comes to Kate's rescue not once but twice, he realizes the only way to keep her safe from a crazy stalker is to keep her close. But his life is far from easy. He's a lone wolf, and the last thing he's looking for is attachment. After one night with Kate, though, Walker can't fight the chemistry sizzling between them. Not only does he find her irresistible, he feels compelled to protect her. And Kate soon discovers just how far Walker will go to do so.

Short

Kate seems to attract all the loosers especially when dating so she decides to try online dating. The date that she has starts off not on a good note and goes downhill, this is where she meets Walker.
I liked the suspense, and the steamy scenes were hot.
Just wished there was more to the first book.

Great Quick Listen

A great beginning to Kate & Walker's story. Kate meets Walker when a online date turns into a huge disaster. Walker ends up protecting her from a crazy person. The connection between these two are explosive and when they get together it's hot and steamy. I enjoyed listening to this story and can't wait to hear the rest of their story.

One Night

Right off, I didn't like the narrator Glenda Johnson. Her voice and inflections just didn't work for me. Maybe it was the pitch of her voice. Anyway it set me on edge listening to this story.
As to the pairing of Kate and Walker I found right from the beginning I really didn't care for either one of them. Kate is just too short tempered and a bit bitchy. When Kate is first described, her eyes are Smokey brown, then a couple of chapters later they are amber eyes. As we progress farther at the police interview her eyes are brown. In chapter 16 her eyes are hazel with amber flecks. At the end of the book her eyes are deep hazel.
Walker has an attitude towards women in general that is a real turn off for me. No matter what he did I just couldn't warm up to him. By the time we progressed to the cliff hanger I still didn't care for either Kate or Walker and I was glad I didn't have to listen to the narrator anymore.
Lorhainne I own 35 of your books 5 of them are audible while 4 are boxed sets and I just love reading your books and mostly love your characters but I am sorry I just couldn't relate to Kate and Walker. I do own book 2 (not audible and now I am glad of that) and I will read it, maybe Kate and Walker will eventually grow on me. To be honest, I didn't think I would ever read one of your books that I didn't like... Sorry

An ok story

This story centers around Kate Sikes and Detective Walker.
Kate, a single professional woman, has been doing some online dating . Each date going from bad to worse. When the latest one almost gets her killed, she meets Detective Walker Pruett who comes to her rescue.
The story is at times funny, with some suspense and whodunit, and sexy. There was some questionable work ethics on Walker’s part.
I have to confess that this one was quite different than other stories I have read/listened by this author and one I would not have guessed was written by her.
This is a short audio that leaves the listener wondering if this is the end or there is more to come.
As far as the narrator, she was ok.

A little bit of a cliffhanger but I liked it.

One Night is the first book in the Kate And Walker: Deadly Dangerous & Desired series and it's rather short (2.5 hrs). My husband and I listened to this together and we both enjoyed it however, we have a difference of opinion regarding the narrator, Glenda Johnson.

He liked the narration, me, not so much. I would probably have rated it a 2 but he would give it a 4 so therefore I averaged it to 3. I felt that there were way too many places where the inflections in her voice just didn't fit the words right and I also thought there was too much over-emphasis in a lot of places. I suspect that part of the issue for me is that (with a few exceptions) I prefer listening to a male voice but I tried not to let that influence my opinion for this review.

Regarding the story: I've now listened to a few books by Ms. Eckhart from her The Friessens and The Wilde Brothers series and I enjoyed them. One Night is also pretty good but it has a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Fortunately, I own the ebooks of the remaining two stories so I won't have to wait long to find out more.

It's not exactly a cliffhanger in the sense that no one is left in peril and the main threat seems to be concluded. However, the relationship between Kate and Walker is kind of left hanging so I think you will definitely want to know more after finishing One Night. I plan to continue with this series but maybe not in audio format.

I should also mention that there is more strong language (in particular the F word) in One Night than there was in the other books I've read/listened to. I'm not offended, I mention it so that you aren't caught by surprise since I know this bothers some readers a lot.
