Publisher's Summary

Welcome to the Nightworld Academy, attended by vampires, shifters, and witches. A place filled with harmony and mutual respect between the supernatural races. Sometimes.

I'm told my curse is a gift. A valuable one that could cost me my life.

My visions of the future are weird, but my new school is weirder. All lessons take place in the evening and the majority of students are on an advanced program where they take extra classes late into the night.

I enrolled at the academy because my last school expelled me for punching another student. Nobody believed that I knocked Tyler unconscious to stop somebody else dying. But why would they believe the crazy girl?

I expected to meet other troubled teens here, but the pupils are predictable for an English boarding school. There's Ash, the rugby team captain and the academy’s most popular guy. Then there’s Andrei, the moody guy with a bad attitude who takes pleasure in annoying me. And Jamie who’s studious and friendly but intense.

I thought I had the academy figured out: the mean girl, the quirky friend, the nerd, the emo, and the jock. But on the evening I swear allegiance to my new school house, everything spins out of control and I realize I’m dealing with more.

Much more.

One of us will die, and I know who.

Term One is the first in this new upper YA/NA series of magic academy books. The main characters are eighteen and older and this is a slow burn RH. As the series is set at a school in England, the books are written in British English.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE

This story was interesting from the beginning, and as the book progressed it got more interesting. The main character, Maeve, was kinda irritating but the plot more than made up for it.
Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell have excellent chemistry, and their voices were so well matched with each other. In other words, GREAT NARRATION.
I personally cannot wait for the next audiobook and am itching to get my hands on it. NIghtworld Academy: Year One was definitely worth the time spent listening to it. Buy it, you won't regret it.

This audio will keep you up all night

Book 1 in the series. Lisa Swallow wrote a great Reverse Harem story . The story has mystery , heroine saving, illusions and getting back at some characters . The heroine has unique magical skills
Heroine is Maeve . And Maeve's boys .

Maeve parents keep on telling her the visions she keeps on seeing is her mind making things up . It’s not real . One night Maeve seems a vision that she can’t just ignore. Maeve sees things working up to her vision and she decides to make things right. Maeve saves the school-person . She gets in trouble with both her parents and the school . Her parents decide to punish her ., they send her to another school. That’s when things get real interesting. That’s where her powers are revealed and she meets her men .

Both Steve Campbell and Sarah Colton performance was fantastic. They did the characters and tone was great .

Enjoyed it

I enjoyed this book. It was a slow burn, which i don't mind. The main character is thrust into a completely new world of supernaturals which she had no idea existed. She was always told she was crazy. Then to find out she was actually a witch who sees the future. The narration brings in a whole new level to this book. I can't wait to read more in this series!

Good story, so so MC

I really enjoyed they story. The plot progression was on point for me, and the narration was great. Loved the sub characters and the slow burn. The main character has some great aspects but also some things that made feel “eh” about her. There were moments where she seemed a bit whiny or immature but some of those parts made you feel her emotions on a relatable level too. Over all I would give this book a try. The story is good enough to ignore the minor annoyances for. I was given my copy for an unbiased review.

Great Introduction to the Series / Great Narration

This was my first LJ Swallow's book. This is the first book in the Nighworld Academy, a YA/NA series, and slow burn RH story. This is a great introduction to the series. The world building is complex and intriguing. Maeve, Ash, Andrei, and Jamies are great and interesting characters. The story has magic, mystery and romance, with vampires, shifters, and witches. Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell did a great job with the narration. I love their voices together. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series. #AudiobookObsession

A World of Secrets

Maeve believes she is going to a school to help her with her issues. That school turns out to be far from what she imagines. Can she learn to survive in a world she knows nothing about and holds many secrets. As she learns about this world she struggles with her perception of what is right. I enjoyed this and can’t wait to see where this adventure take Maeve. I really enjoyed the narration.

Good start to this supernatural academy series

I have read a lot of other RH series by LJ Swallow but for some reason I hadn’t picked this one up yet. I am so glad I got to listen to it on audio because the narrators really brought this story to life in my head. I haven’t been listening or reading the recent releases in the supernatural/paranormal academy book genre, but I enjoyed this story and characters LJ has created and look forward to more!

I hadn’t listened to any audiobooks by these 2 narrators and they pleasantly surprised me. Added them to my “good/awesome” list for sure. I wish there had been more Steve to be honest, but that was all dependent on the storyline and chapter POVs really. I did enjoy during and after the confrontation at the end his various accents/changes in the intonation. I could figure out the different characters very well. I thought Sarah did a good job with Maeve and the supporting characters (esp Kathryn). I could feel the various emotions Sarah portrayed, very good job!

Regarding the actual story, I really enjoyed the different creatures/beings that are included and the odes to Harry Potter made me giggle and smile. I think I actually liked the supporting characters more than the MC, which is why I couldn’t give the story 5 stars. I think she has a lot of room to grow which is great for the overarching story. I just think as the book went on, I wasn’t connecting with her as much/was yelling at her to just tell people what she saw haha. I definitely am interested to see what happens between her and the various men in her life. I couldn’t pick my fav, but Andrei was probably winning just a tad. I thought he had some amazing vulnerable moments that left me wanting to know more about him. I usually go for the nerd buuuut not this time haha.

I definitely am going to listen to book 2 right away, I need to know what happens next! Totally recommend this series and give two thumbs up to these narrators, for anyone looking for a new supernatural story to get lost in ❤️

I’ll listen to the second but...

I loved the idea of this book but there were a lot of bug plot holes and it didn’t captivate me the way others have. Maeve was a bit unrelatable and whiny. I understand she was kind of thrown into the world but she was a bit slow on the uptake for a lot of things. It seemed odd to me that she wasn’t given more of an explanation on things when she was first dropped off at the academy and definitely made me hate her parents for just dropping her off even when her mom knew she could have powers. I hope Maeve turns into a stronger character because I think the storyline has a lot of potential.

I liked it.

The story was intriguing, and I liked how the different houses played their parts throughout.
Great ending to book one.

For the performances, I could tell the narrators weren’t from England. Quite a few US twangs found their way in, and some of the pronunciations threw me a little.
However, they did really well keeping up the ‘accent’ throughout.

Love It

Maeve finds herself expelled from school after making a drastic move to save a boy's life. She'd seen his death in a vision. Her aunt volunteers to pay for her to go to a private academy that will help her with her "condition". It doesn't take long for Maeve to realize this isn't a normal school and her visions aren't hallucinations. I really enjoyed the story. It was invigorating. It was like House of Night and Vampire Academy. There's even a character that reminds me of Adrian from Vampire Academy. There's a girl in here that makes Aphrodite look like a docile cat. It's insane! I did have a few problems with this book though. Mainly the fact that I felt some scenes were rushed over when they should have been enhanced more. I also felt that focuses were placed where they shouldn't be. The characters. I really feel like Amelia should have played a bigger part in the book than she did. I'm also torn between admiring Maeve and getting really annoyed by her narrow minded opinions. She is great, but she really needs to keep her opinions to herself and stop justifying her opinions without even listening to the other people. The narrators weren't really horrible, but they could have done a better job. I've listened to work from Sarah Colton before. I'm not sure I've listened to anything by Steve Campbell before. Either way, I like to keep an e-book companion with me. I may not follow super close, but I do follow. They changed the wording a bit in multiple places. I wouldn't really mind that because it doesn't change the story at all. However, they actually left off about a page of a chapter. I couldn't over look that. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I do hope that Maeve has a personality change as the series continues. I don't see her keeping friends if she keeps looking down on everybody for what they do in life. I really adore character transformations. They add value to book series. I can't wait to continue this series.

Enjoyable

Nightworld Academy: Term One by LJ Swallow is a new upper YA/NA series of magic academy books that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell.

This is the first book of LJ’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to dive into Nightworld Academy: Term Two.

Sarah and Steve did an amazing job on the narration. They really made the story come to life with their accents and tones for each character.

Good Listen

This audiobook was a great listen.

Mei is a young girl who has had visions most of her life not knowing she’s a witch. She ends up at the academy under false pretenses but soon realizes what’s really going on.

You get vampires, witches, & shifters all in one! You get some action, suspense, and chemistry between the characters. This PNR has a little of everything that is good! Can’t wait for term 2!

Sarah & Steve both did great jobs narrating!

A brilliant Academy story

This was a really good story about witches, shifters and vampires!
I really liked the different types of each of the supernatural races, which gave a really good depth to the world.

As I feel with so many of the academy stories, where they cover an entire year in one book, I miss some more day to day stuff, to see how life is, when the characters aren't in the middle of drama and action.

And I really enjoyed the two amazing narrators, who did a splendid job on this audiobook! I especially enjoyed Steve Campbell's lovely voice.

The male voice was a bit hard to listen to at times. But overall, great story!
