Publisher's Summary

This FBI agent has come to expect almost anything - just not this…

When Agent Mercedes Ramirez finds an abused young boy on her porch, covered in blood and clutching a teddy bear, she has no idea that this is just the beginning. He tells her a chilling tale: an angel killed his parents and then brought him here so Mercedes could keep him safe.

His parents weren’t just murdered. It was a slaughter - a rage kill like no one on the Crimes Against Children team had seen before. But they’re going to see it again. An avenging angel is meting out savage justice, and she’s far from through.

One by one, more children arrive at Mercedes’s door with the same horror story. Each one a traumatized survivor of an abusive home. Each one chafing at Mercedes’s own scars from the past. And each one taking its toll on her life and career.

Now, as the investigation draws her deeper into the dark, Mercedes is beginning to fear that if this case doesn’t destroy her, her memories might.

Loved it but....

Loved it. Great end to a wonderful trilogy. My only drawbacks were: 1- We have become used to 2 narrators per book. It would have been wonderful to continue the trend. 2- For those non-spanish speaking persons like myself, it would have been nice to take us into consideration. For me, the interjections of Spanish in this book was annoying and frustrating. I wonder why Spanish wasn't used in the first 2 books?

Great story, disappointing narration

Overall, I thought the story was great. I've loved the characters since The Butterfly Garden and love how strong and resilient Mercedes is in this book. With that being said, the narration was pretty disappointing. I though Siri Scott did much better in Roses of May, but maybe that's because she didn't preform the entire book. I thought she was too "over the top" with some of the things and she made the characters in this book sound like they were missing brains in their heads. I think it would have been a more enjoyable listening experience if someone else narrated the book.

Worst in the series

This book didn’t seem to built on or add to the series. The Spanish portions were annoying and story drawn out to an unfulfilled finish.

Great Book

Dot really knows how to create a great work of fictional characters. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Dot has a way of making you feel as though you are one of the close friends of Mercedes and the team. I sure hope there will be another book out soon.

almost as good 1st 2 books

I preferred the victims perspective and triumph from the 1st 2 books. also felt that the relationship drama was pointless to the story and a waste of time, but should have expected it since it was mentioned in the last book several times. who gets mad at someone because a killer is targeting someone? I do enjoy seeing the growth in the characters. looking forward to the next book. suspense is great and the ideas are great.

Horrific & Fascinating;Read them in order

I have now read all three of the books in this series, beginning with "The Butterfly Garden". It took e a while after reading that book to figure out if I loved it, hated it, or perhaps a bit of both. These stories are different that anything I have ever read, and to my mind, in a class all their own. It's difficult to discuss without giving the story away. If you like books that you can't put down, books that entrance you while they disgust you, well then I'd say don't miss these.

fantastic!

This book not only gives the stark realisation of the horrors in the world and what FBI agents have to go through, but also how children can be so elastic and bounce back from hell on earth to a life of their choice thanks to the bravery of a few. This book is brutal, honest and truthful yet showing beauty at every corner. truly and easily one of the best books I have listened to In a long time.
I highly recommend the trilogy to anyone.
