Publisher's Summary

In the summer of 1999, Kit and Laura travel to a festival in Cornwall to see a total eclipse of the sun. Kit is an eclipse chaser; Laura has never seen one before. Young and in love, they are certain this will be the first of many they'll share.

But in the hushed moments after the shadow passes, Laura interrupts a man and a woman. She knows that she saw something terrible. The man denies it. It is her word against his.

The victim seems grateful. Months later she turns up on their doorstep like a lonely stray. But as her gratitude takes a twisted turn, Laura begins to wonder - did she trust the wrong person?

Fifteen years later, Kit and Laura married are living under new names and completely off the digital grid: no Facebook, only rudimentary cell phones, not in any directories. But as the truth catches up to them, they realize they can no longer keep the past in the past.

From Erin Kelly, queen of the killer twist, He Said/She Said is a gripping tale of the lies we tell to save ourselves, the truths we cannot admit, and how far we will go to make others believe our side of the story.

Critic Reviews

"A tour de force - a gripping, twisting, furiously clever read that asks all the right questions, and keeps you guessing until the very end. I loved it." (Ruth Ware, best-selling author of The Woman in Cabin 10)
"The dual narrators, Helen Johns and Jonathan Broadbent...are versatile in tone and theatrically fitting as the drama of the story builds to its climax." ( AudioFile)

You've Got To Be Kidding Me

This book has such an idiotic circular plot and makes absolutely no sense to me at all. The characters are completely impossible to relate to. Four hours to go and I can't stand one more minute of this nonsense. The only mystery for me is why the characters would do anything they have done up until this point. Further, if this is the state of what publishers consider worth while current fiction I give up.

Narration ok but could not finish the book

What disappointed you about He Said/She Said?

It was so boring. DNF at 30%, It was all about eclipses and little else

What was most disappointing about Erin Kelly’s story?

It was boring, I couldn't finish it. I didn't buy it to learn about eclipses. I don't know how it got categorized as a thriller.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Both narrators were okay. The female was better but the male was not bad.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No

Not Good

First few hours were incredibly slow with lots of backstory and very little anticipation or preview of the thriller this is supposed to be. There's a "twist" but it's unbelievable and honestly the story line that should propel the mystery left me with much to be desired. This was my last credit and so I hung in there...wouldn't recommend it unless it's on sale.

No There There

What disappointed you about He Said/She Said?

The story (zero), the people are wimps. Waste of my time

What could Erin Kelly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing

What didn’t you like about Jonathan Broadbent and Helen Johns ’s performance?

Helen John's voice always quavered-maybe right for the character but couldn't stand it.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from He Said/She Said?

The entire book.

Loved it!

What did you love best about He Said/She Said?

To be completely honest, I thought this book had some pretty serious lulls and the beginning was a little confusing to me. BUT I love books that go back and forth in time, so i stuck with it. I am soooo glad I did! Although there were some boring parts to this book and it did seem to drone on a bit, those parts were not wasted, it weaved an interesting and compelling storyline that all came together in the end. Lots of twists here. Don't give up on this book!

Unique Non-chronological Plot

The story was good. I started to read this book four times before I could get into it and plow through. The science and history of the eclipses bored me. I wonder if some of that left out would have helped the reader to more quickly identify with the characters and get caught up with the actual plot. The jumps from past to present and back were annoying and confusing for the first half of the book. The ending was unsatisfactory.

Not my favorite

Story got better toward the end, but ended rather abruptly. Felt like so much work up for not a huge reward

hard to follow

I struggled to finish this book due to the past and present switching. The same with the characters I couldn't remember who was in the past who was in the present,, the characters didn't always stay in the same in each timeline....just too confusing. I had no problem really with the narrator.
