Publisher's summary

Most careers begin with an interview and a handshake. Others require a little something more.

Meet Jake Oliver. The day will come when he's one of the best cleaners in the business, a man skilled at making bodies disappear. At the moment, however, he's a 22-year-old rookie cop, unaware his life is about to change. In a burning barn a body is found - and the fire isn't the cause of death. The detectives working the case have a pretty good idea about what went down. But Officer Oliver thinks it's something else entirely, and pursues a truth others would prefer remain hidden - others who will go to extreme lengths to keep him quiet.

Every identity has an origin. This is Quinn's.

First 5-star (for me) in a long time

Finally: a believable, entertaining "action" story, with narration to match. Nothing to strain your credulity, with a riveting story line. Ready for the next one!

This is how an addiction starts!

I stumbled into this series after grabbing "Night Man" ( a spin off from this series) on a daily deal.

It's quite an interesting take on the "spy with a conscience and moral compass" and this back history is a glimpse into what made Quin, the man he is now. Be fore warned tho, if you have a penchant for getting invested in the like of Harry Bosch, Amos Decker, Jack Ryan, etc......plan on getting a few hundred hours and dollars invested in Quin and his "apprentice" Nate.

A great Prequel to all the Quinn Stories

I enjoyed Battles going back and giving us the Quinn origin tale. New Battles fan should now start with becoming Quinn as the get on the J.Q. train.

Excellent first book for series

I really enjoyed this book as it explains how Quinn got started in his profession. I like Scott Brick, in my opinion he makes the best of all the books he narrates.

Excellent Origin Story

I love back stories. How do your heroes become that way? What pressures pushed them into the lives they lead? Battles does an excellent job of creating those pressures that pushed a young man out of his chosen carrer of a policeman into that of being a cleaner.Well done, Mr Battles!
