Publisher's summary

Come along for the ride to meet feisty Boston city girls who know what they want, and rugged Montana men who just need to be loved. It's 1900, and things are changing fast in sleepy Sun River. As the town begins to expand, its inhabitants are getting restless, looking for love and adventure.

Why would an accomplished governess respond to an advertisement in the Matrimonial Times? Myra Gilbert had never considered such a thing, but something has awoken within her and she is determined to take her chance on love.

Carlton Green claimed his lands, and now has the deeds in his grasp. But something is missing in his life. Will his quest to find love fill that hole, or is there something from his past that could change everything and leave him with nothing?

Nice Mail Order Bride; Good New Series

A Bride for Carlton was a great beginning for the Sun River Brides series. I liked the characters and the setting. The story was neat and clean with a fulfilling ending. Overall, this was a very relaxing and enjoyable listen. I like calling these cozies as they make me feel comfy and cozy.

Alan Taylor's narration was great. He had a smooth consistent tone and was definitely easy on my ears. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him read this short story. He did a wonderful job.

Lots of Potential

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was a quick fun listen. Short and to the point.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I did like the way the ending wrapped things up and didn't leave you to wonder what would happen or why.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I thought he did great on the male narration, however the female part seemed very robotic.

Do you think Mail Order Bride - A Bride for Carlton needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The first half of the book was great, but the second half seemed rushed. It would be nice to have a prequel to this book.

Any additional comments?

I would try this author again. The book had alot of potential to be great.

Likable

Any additional comments?

I thought the book was very cute. It did seem very rushed. There was no real back story to the female lead character Mayra other than her father was a teacher. I did enjoy the book but was kind of sad it was cut so short and didn't really go into very many details. If what you are looking for is a quick love story you will enjoy this book.

Sweet romance

This is my first Karla Gracey listen, and really enjoyed it! A short book takes us on the journey of Carlton and Myra and their correspondence to get to know each other. I loved this part of the book, many Mail Order Brides do not give the initial "get to know each other" of the letters that go back and forth, but start when the bride is on her way to her new husband. This banter made me laugh, and fall for Carlton. When he arrives in Boston to court Myra, we learn he has secrets. This kept my interest...what could he be hiding? It was a surprise! I would have loved to have gotten to know these two more, they were great personalities..quick wit, warm, a little sarcasm and love.

Alan Taylor gives us a heart-warming performance.
