Publisher's summary

Harrison

Once his fortune in silver mining is secured, Harrison Carter finally sends back home for his fiancée. It’s been four years since he’s seen Jenny.

But it’s Retta Pearce, Jenny’s sister, who arrives by stagecoach with young daughter Adeline in tow. When this lovely, soiled dove brings devastating news and a written plea from Jenny to marry and care for Retta and little Addie, what’s a good man to do?

Retta

Fulfilling her dying sister’s request, Retta travels across dangerous territory to marry a man she barely remembers. But the hard miner who meets her at the stagecoach surely isn’t the same one her sister claimed was kind and honorable, a gentleman who’ll embrace her and her daughter as if they were his own. Has she made a mistake she’ll pay for the rest of her life?

Two people

Thrown together in shared sorrow, Harrison and Retta struggle to forge a life in the brand-new state of late 19th-century Colorado.

Great Western Romance!

I really enjoyed this book. This story tells of a love that grew out of friendship and the struggle along the way. The plot and characters have a continuous flow. The narration was good and kept you entertained. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series when they're released. Enthralling...Irresistible...Downright Swoonworthy

Talk about the need to binge read! In The Substitute Wife, Little Creede Brides, Book 1, Harrison Creede left Jenny, his intended, in his hometown to make something of the family silver mines. Four years later, he is eagerly expecting Jenny and their future life together. When Retta, Jenny’s sister arrives instead, he is shocked by Jenny’s request.

The characters are authentic and memorable. I enjoyed how Harrison’s emotions changed as the story unfolds with his relationship with Jenny and her daughter Addie growing. His difficulty letting Jenny go made my heart ache for him, as it was obvious he is destined to love Rhetta. I applaud their resolve to make things work and build trust, no matter how difficult their circumstances. It wasn’t an easy road for them, and that makes the book even better!

Ms. Cordel brings realism to not only the characters but the setting and way of life in the old West. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series – The Dance Hall Wife – which I have an idea of whose hearts are involved. If you enjoy historical western romance, then this series is for you!

Good Start

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This story started out great. It got better then took a weird turn then got back on track, I loved the strong silent hero who always stepped in to do the right thing. I also loved that even though the heroine was a mild-mannered woman she held her own when the time came for action over and over. The narrator was great with the voices and I loved the little girl. This is a great start to a good series and I can see how the brother and Cat will form a strong bond in the next book. Can't wait for it to come out.

An Enjoyable Read

"The Substitute Wife" was a nice way to spend the day. The story moves along at a steady pace while Rhetta and Harrison get to know, learn to trust and then love each other. There is a bit of tension and excitement throughout with the introduction of our villian, and some extra smiles while Harrison's brother Frank softens up to little Miss Addie. The narrator was fantastic! I received a free copy of this book and am leaving a review because I want to.

The Substitute Wife

The Substitute Wife
: CiCi Cordelia

This is a sweet, fairly clean, western, historical fiction. The male protagonist goes west to earn his fortune in silver mines. After four years he is ready for his fiance to join him. When he meets the coach, SURPRISE! It isn't his Jenny, but her sister Retta along with her child. The two work at Jenny's request. Plenty of action and an evil antagonist or two. This was a fun listen, and I can't wait for more in this series!!!

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Alan Taylor does great voicing western novels. Very enjoyable!

Sweet and Entertaining Western Historical Romance!

This is the first book in the Brides of Little Creede Series, a Western Historical Romance. Harrison and Retta's story is entertaining, sweet, and heartwarming, filled with a little suspense, and twists and turns. Harrison is very handsome and protective. Retta is beautiful, smart, strong, and caring. Her daughter Addie is so cute. The supporting characters are great. I liked Harrison's brother Frank, and Cat. Looking forward to listening to The Dance Hall Wife, the next book in the series. Great narration from Alan Taylor. I enjoyed it. I loved the narration of Alan Taylor

Harrison has waited four years eagerly for Jenny and their future life together. But when Retta, Jenny’s sister arrives with her young daughter Addie instead, he is shocked and angry by Jenny’s request.
I enjoyed how Harrison’s emotions changed as the story unfolds with his relationship with Jenny and her daughter Addie growing. His difficulty letting Jenny go. Oh and saying her name in certain situation, does not help the newly married couple, find peace and a new start.
With a great villain and characters, action, heat and steam. Perfect.
