Publisher's summary

“Let me go. I’ll be right back,” she promised, and kissed his lips. “You won’t even know I’m gone.”

Separated from the love of a lifetime, Haven and Ryker are forced to endure a cruel trial that tests more than their bond. Though Haven is in Terra under simulation, blissfully unaware of the bonding trial, Ryker is left in Berinia, abandoned and stricken with a loneliness he’s never known. His choices test the limits of his relationship with his Triad and everyone he loves.

But time is not their only enemy. The Phoenix is the key to Praesia’s safety, and in Haven’s absence, those who set them on this path flourish, gain new allies, and set in motion a more permanent scheme to keep Haven and Ryker apart. Their ambitions reach for the throne and the very heart of Praesia.

For their enemies, the trial seems a success when Haven returns changed, with a damaged memory of her seraphim life. With the support of her loves ones, Ryker is determined to help Haven remember who they were together and the love they shared, but his own scars from the trial run deep. They struggle to find each other, not only for the bond they have fought to preserve, but to save their world.

Prepare for an Emotional Roller Coaster!

Light Lost is the second book in the Shadows and Light series by Georgia Leigh. I thought book one was fantastic, but this one was so much more. If you are looking for a new fantasy series to read this one IS A MUST READ!!!! The author immerses you in this world that she has created. The writing is on point for me and she does such a great job giving you what you need without major info dumps, which can be hard to get through in some fantasy series. Light in the Shadows ended on a major cliff hanger and this installment picks up right where we left off with Haven and Ryker. If you haven't read the first book, you definitely need to do that now.

The narrator for this book is the same as book 1, which makes diving into this one so easy. She really continues to bring these characters to life for me. She tells their stories with such emotion, and it really makes you feel their pain, love, happiness, and sadness so much more.

This is definitely a slow burn fantasy. This book spans more that 80 years, so there is so much to cover and set up for the next books in the series. The world building in this series is so intricate and detailed, and I love how by the end of this book, things are falling into place and leaves us reeling with disbelief at some of the revelations at the end. I expected a few of them but was completely blindsided by others and loved every minute of it!

Ryker continues to be my favorite character, and my heart ached for him throughout this entire book. His journey without Haven is gut wrenching and full of raw emotions. Georgia Leigh doesn't try to spare our feelings at all and at times I felt like I just needed some happiness for poor Ryker's broken heart to be mended, even just a little.

Be warned, this book is going to take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and leave you destroyed in the most delicious way. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Can true fated love conquer all?

Light Lost by Georgia C. Leigh is the second book and continuation of the story the Shadow and Light series. This book had my attention the entire time. Leigh is able to include more story telling to expand the world in under 700 pages. There is a strong balance of romance and political plot to keep you entertained during the trial. And naturally, over the course of 80 years you’re going to meet some new characters as well.

The first act of the book goes back-and-forth between both worlds and shows how the characters in each spend their 80 years of the trial. With Ryker in Praesia and Haven in Terra, it presents a great opportunity for story dynamic and development which Leigh definitely does not sit on. Leigh includes the nuggets of the 80 years that move the plot along with smooth transitions and time jumps in the story.

Ryker is put through the wringer emotionally while adjusting to the trial. Their love was a slow burn in Book 1, but when they both fell they fell fast and hard. A love like that, especially one that is mated, must be a one in a million. So much so that he even tempts fate and risks his life for her on multiple occasions.

The second act focuses on the events after the trial. Were they successful or not? I’ll let you read and watch how that unveils. The readers are able to reconnect with a lot of characters and see growth, even though for some in the story, it felt like time stood still. This is the point where I started theorizing my thoughts for how the book was going to end and wow, was I still caught off-guard.

One aspect I thoroughly enjoyed in Light Lost , was Leigh’s inclusion the antagonists' stories and not only that, but their relationships with lover, comrades, and family. It added a more human aspect to the villain pod (aka everyone who was out for pure dominance of Praesia…and Haven). It helps the reader make those story connections…also I am a sucker for a villain’s backstory and getting inside their minds to see what makes them behave and feel how they do.

Thankfully there is a Book 3 releasing on Marck 19, Shadow Rising. So there is less time to wait to see how our cliffhanger ending of Light Lost will continue on. I did a tandem read of Light Lost on Audible and Kindle (Unlimited, then I bought the ebook). I highly recommend both versions or doing a tandem read.

My favorite series, one of my favorite narrators

I purchased the audiobook through audible and I highly recommend it! It's the same narrator as the first and she does a fantastic job.

The blurb for the book does a thorough job of saying what this book is about, and I'm afraid to add any more because I don't want to risk spoilers. I will say that only this author could find a way to separate bonded mates and give us this amazing slow burn again so brilliantly. My girl Haven is always suffering, and given the ending of this book, I don't think that will end anytime soon.

This book is based around Haven and Riker's bond and their quest to find each other again, but it is so much more than that. Even if you got rid of all of the delicious slow burn and juicy smut (you had better not!), this is a wonderful fantasy read filled with tension, action, and betrayal. There was not a single moment of this book that I wasn't completely enthralled by the story. I was literally dreading the ending, and avoided listening to it for several days because I didn't want to finish. This author could make the rest of this series thousands of pages long for each book, and I would DEVOUR them!

I am so excited that there are more books coming up for this series. If this author writes them, I'm going to read them! Or, listen to them in my case. Highly recommend this series!
