New Orleans: city of intrigue, supernatural secrets, and one enigmatic dragon.

A deadly curse....
For 300 years, Gabriel Blakemore has survived in New Orleans after a coup in his native realm of Paragon scattered him and his dragon siblings across the globe. Now a voodoo curse threatens to end his immortal existence. His only hope is to find an antidote, one that may rest in a mortal woman.

A lifesaving gift....
After five years of unsuccessful treatment for her brain cancer, death is a welcome end for Raven Tanglewood. Her illness has become a prison her adventurous spirit cannot abide. Salvation comes in the form of Gabriel, who uses dragon magic to save her.

A harrowing price....
To Raven, the bond that results from Gabriel's gift is another kind of captivity. Can Gabriel win Raven's love and trust in time to awaken the life-saving magic within her? Or will his fiery personality and possessive ways drive her from his side and seal his fate?

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable story - Love the the Plot

The story revolves around a dragon from another realm and a local New Orleans woman. The story immediately pulls you in! I throughly enjoyed how the author wrote both of the characters and their chemistry! I cannot wait for the next book.

As for the audiobook, the narrator (Rock Engle) read this story versus trying to do much character variation or bringing in local accents. The narrator has a nice strong voice. I wish they would have done a duel narration for this book. It would have made it a 5 star book for sure!

Decent book and terrible narration..

I'm giving this 4 stars because I like 75% of it. And the other 25% dislike could be because of the narrator. He was pretty terrible. So I tried to concentrate more on the story.

I really liked Gabriel but Raven had too many TSTL moments, especially when she went to Gabriel's realm and wandered off outside because she was too impatient to wait for him, and AGAIN she was taken, by the evil people. He was constantly having to save that idiot girl.

I liked Richard, Duncan and Agnes, and even though we never got to the Oreads, Hazel and Juniper, I really liked them.

Overall, it was a pretty interesting story BUT since the same person is narrating the second book I won't continue with the series.

There was sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 11 times.

Good story

Over all it was a good story. There were a few parts I where I wanted to reach in and smack the main character, but that feels a little like nitpicking. I enjoyed the story and consider it worth the credit used.

This has everything a girl could dream of in a book

A wonderful tale of mystery magic and love. You won't want it to end and I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait for the next book.

Narrator

The story is solidly good. The performance is well done. I just have one question about the narrator:

IS THAT YOU, NATHAN FILLION?

Bad narrator, story lacking, TSTL heroine

Let me sum this story up: the heroine is barely upset when asking the hero if he killed a woman and then becomes completely hysterical when asking if he slept with her. Priorities of a dumb bitch. That's pretty much this entire book. everytime she becomes likable she does something completely stupid. If there was a stupid choice to be made... you better believe, she'll make it. Be it running into dangerous situations or wondering off while in another realm you can count on this idiot to make the wrong choice. Hero: "She'll absorb all of my power and it's only a matter of time before I become her slave". TSTL heroines response: "I know it's not ideal" Then she proceeds to get mad at him and storms off throwing a tantrum because he doesn't want to become a sex slave battery of a mad woman. Literally one of the worst heroines I've ever read.

Narration: He does absolutely nothing to change his voice for different characters. There's literally no variation when he does a female part. His performance was terrible. The only silver lining when a book has a terrible narrator is when you see the rest of the series is performed by someone else. Not so with this series. When he does a female crying he sounds like a fucking 90 year old man. And she cries ALOT. It's AWFUL! If this was a duel narration and you only had to hear him for male voices it wouldn't be so bad.

There were so many blatantly obvious inconsistencies. So let me get this straight...the bartender at their bar knows that the bar is named after her ancestors believed to have been witches and yet she has absolutely no idea that magic may have ran in her family?!?!
Three women that you just watched come to life after drinking blood tried to stab you whilst calling you an abomination and you're worried about being able to see while escaping and then when you get to his house instead of "explain right now " she's worried about nothing other than having sex? The author could've worked passion into that without making her h seem like a complete idiot. Her body was lighting up with symbols and her number one priority wasn't figuring out why but sleeping with him? I love a steamy scene but the timing matters.

She's convinced he had something to do with another girls disappearance, but "runs into his arms" 1 second after confronting him about killing her? Then after running into his arms the next paragraph is about her looking into it in case he did have something to do with it. They go to another realm for a super dangerous mission and decide to stop at a bar and treat it like a vacay. She's taken into an entirely different fucking realm, he steps away to talk to someone and she....wonders the fuck outside and goes to visit shops?!?! TSTL

There was ALOT of time for the author to build the relationship between the MCs. Instead it went from a mild flirtation to being absolutely in love. They didn't come together until 3/4 of the way in and the author still failed to make them believable. I do have to say that their relationship was enjoyable after they got together.

It could've been great, but missed the mark.

I'll still but the 2nd because there's potential here and if ther heroine wasn't such an idiot I could've overlooked the other things.
