Publisher's summary

Pippa Ingleside will do anything to escape her ruthless uncle, but even she is surprised when her previously dormant powers aid her. Surprised and afraid. Her newly discovered abilities may have saved her but they condemn her at the same time.

Disguised as a boy, she travels to the home of Lord Ashbourne to find her one and only friend. To maintain her disguise and put a roof over her head, Pippa accepts a job as page of the wardrobe to Ash, a man as mysterious as he is dangerous. If he discovers her lie, he'll send her back to her uncle and her witchcraft will be exposed to the authorities.

As the lies build it gets harder for Pippa to maintain her disguise, especially when she falls in love with the man she must serve.

Her only hope is to find her friend. But when the friend is murdered, Ash investigates and where he goes, his page goes too. Together they uncover a web of secrets that could destroy Ash and condemn Pippa. But that's nothing compared to what happens when he discovers she's a woman....

Enjoyed this book

The narrator was really good. The plot was good. Could have done with less of the romance and more story, but I enjoyed the book.

good story

I enjoyed the story much better than book one. The smut was alot and way to much detail. I could of passed on that.I might
of said this would have made a good teenage book as long with adult and they would probably delight in this I have to say I would not wantt my kids reading this just for that reason.

"Oh Ash"

CJ Archer is a favorite author of mine and with this book she didn't disappoint. Enjoyed the storyline and I appreciated there weren't too many "modern day" phrases. That always spoils a period piece for me. overall, a decent read.

Best Characters Ever

This was even better than I expected. I thought it would be a continuation of Nick and Isabell, but NO!! We are in the same town, and we have the same group of people for the most part, but we have added some new characters and boy are they good! Again, never seem to be disappointed with C.J. Archer. Such a great way to spend some quality time with some outrageous folks doing outrageous things. And I do love witches. I still try every day to see if I can do anything magic. Hasn’t worked yet, but one must not give up hope as we learn in this story! We meet a new lady - Pippa - who is escaping from her mean old uncle. She is straightforward and honest and takes no guff from anyone if pushed too far. Her independence is important to her. She meets Nick’s (Book 1) good friend the Earl of Ashland (or Ashton or something like that). So these two are the heart of this tome and the characters are folks I would love to have over at least once a week just for Kicks & Grins. Feisty, honest, brave, independent folks that should be in everyone’s life - if you can stand all the little messes they tend to bring on themselves. The have help as family and secrets and mysteries they have inherited have caused much of the problems these two have to face. The Countess, Ash’s mom, is great. What a gal! And we have all the unfair prejudice against witches and all the bad press they get. Of course, our heroine has inherited the gene for this awesome gift and she is just coming into her powers. Never a dull moment in this book. Just incredibly hard to leave this book to go do those mundane things like earn a living or do the laundry or go to the grocery store. This is such a talented author and we are all so lucky that she has opted to share her gift with all of us out here in the world. Makes life a much happier place to be. I recommend this book to everyone, and thank you C.J.!!
