Publisher's Summary

The future of the Ashaiian haven, the newly founded Kingdom of Cael, is anything but secured. Rezkin must seek recognition from the King of Gendishen if his people are to maintain possession of their island home and the enchanted secret it contains.

In an unexpected twist, events overtake Rezkin, and he is thrust into a frustrating adventure to seek a worthless prize. He finds that his carefully constructed reputation as an indomitable foe has consequences as others seek to use his strengths for their own gain. Meanwhile, friends are confronted with too many truths, power and strength might be more than some desire, loyalties and friendships are tested, and at least one of Rezkin’s friends might be headed for a miserable demise.

Better than book 3. Not as good as 1 and 2

Pros:
- New interesting societies. Kel has a talent here!
- Main annoyances of book 3 are not continued here
- New challenges and Kel continues to find cool out of the box thinking to overcome them

Cons:
- Disappointed on how much time is spent on the few whiny characters whining with little personal development
- Little time spent on the relationships I hoped to read more about, while the new relationships were not that enjoyable

For me, I hope that book 5 completes the story. I want to find out what happens and read more about Rezkin, but I'm starting to not care about most of the other characters. Books 1 and 2 were flawless so it'll suck to stop mid-series.

Going down hill

This book takes the series from a good dark fantasy series to a bad teen romance. I don't think I will continue the series after this book.
on the plus side Nick Podehl did an excellent job narrating as usual, using different accents to highlight when different languages are spoken.

not my favorite - cliffhanger and disjoint

narrator did a good job, especially with accents to indicate language shift. story was meh. disjoint, letting you forget the overarching narrative, and the author seems to enjoy disappointing narrative expectations instead of offering pleasant surprises.

When does the whiny stop

I loved the first two books but I just can't handle the whiny characters. How long does it take for someone to trust another character or just leave. It seems like the same thing over and over, oh you kill people, I can't trust you.

I am a couple hours in and I think I am going to return it, I can't take it anymore.

For love of god, stop whining already

The series was a price winning racehorse, which was maimed by this book.

In my not-so-humble opinion the story has grown stagnant and the characters can do little more than be whiny, distrustful and infuriatingly burdensome thorns in Rezkin's confused buttocks.
They can't do a single thing right, follow a single order, or do anything remotely useful. The only exception was Rezkin's pet mage.
Even Rezkin has been watered down, been elevated to the rank of glorified babysitter, and is currently slowly turning into a emotional rollercoaster.

Simply put, this book was one of my biggest disappointments this year.

Unsatisfied

The world building is fantastic however, the first two books were better when there were no spirits or demons. Looking forward to the completion of the series simply so I can be done with it. Returning all the books.

What was the author thinking?

I was hesitant to get this book because of the bad reviews. The first two were amazing books with a lot of potential but the author no longer cares about this series and it shows in the lazy writing. He forces two characters that had no chemistry to fall for each other. Gets rid of the main characters female intrigue for no reason and doesn’t allow them to have a proper discussion as soon as they added the Faye this series has gone downhill and I’m going to ask for a refund. I genuinely feel like I’ve been robbed of time.

Such s Shame

Clearly Kade had originally planned a trilogy but the first two were very popular and either through greed or reluctance to let his literary baby go, he decided to tack extra stuff on. He could have written a brilliant trilogy. He'll end up with 9 banal books.

Another princess
ANOTHER MAGIC SWORD
Tacked on side quests
WHINGING

As always, the Audible reviews VASTLY exaggerate the books merits.

Pissed...

Kel treats his MC like garbage, and strips anything that could have been good in his life away from him; and now it looks like the story has grown too much in order to finish in just one more novel... So, if you're a fan, get ready to sit through at least two more installments of Reskin being constantly thrown to the wolves, and treated like crap.

Such a disappointing book...The first two books were terrific, kept you interested and wanting more...This, well, I kept looking to see how much longer until the end.............I'm terribly disappointed and frustrated.

Whiny 'friends'

*sigh*
the first two books in this series quickly became two of my favourite fantasy books of all time.

however, at this point, I suspect the books are now being dragged out because I'm certainly not seeing any normal and expected progression among the side characters.

As a result, I finished this book with mixed feelings. while I did enjoy reading about the main character, I could not shake the feeling of annoyance on how the main love interest has been portrayed.

A this point, she subtracts more from the story than she adds.

Nick Podhel has done his voice acting miracles once again.

I still hate Frisha, other than that it's great.

Seriously Frisha is frankly awful, judgemental mean, fly's off the Handel and doesn't seem to appreciate the fact that Reskin has saved her, and others lives on multiple occasions. Has no compassion for the fact Res is emotionally stunted, her character expects purity of action from others but not from her self. Whilst being irrational most of the time and goes through little character development of her own skills and world view.

Other than that it's a pretty great book, various characters go on adventures and grow as people both in them selves and their responsibilies and actions. This book follows several characters not just Reskin as they spin off from main cast which for the most part is successful and allows the author to develop characters like Tam more fully and if he'd just been part of Reskins entourage.

Though I think the author does over rely a touch on conflict with others through characters not explaining things and being irrational and unable to relate due to the other person in the conversation. In some cases this makes sense for instance if Reskin threatens there position as king or they have a different belief system. But in other cases it's just conflict for its sake, aka Trisha.

The battles are great once again as are the discriptions of the build up to some magic actions, along with the consequences, some being equally heavy for some of the characters, helping to challenge them and allow them to develop.

This book delves further into the fantasy side of things too. So I hope everyone's good with that, still it's done in a natural way.

Over all 4.5 to 5 out of 5. Trisha really pissed me off Malcius suffers from the same thing too a degree but I'd say moves forward more during this book I get that there prissy nobles but I thought they'd of changed more by now, Tieran certainly has and continues to do so in this book. Other wise it would be pure 5 stars from me.

Brilliant storytelling

There are only four authors that I wait longingly for, and Kel Kade's series is one of them. All four books have been great to listen to. The third title was a little slower and had less action, but I still really enjoyed the character developments. Whatever the lead character does, he tends to do it successfully. Some reviewers have complained about this in the past, though actually for me this is one of the big bonuses of the book, and provides a progressive feel good factor. How many books have I listened to where the tedium of everything going wrong for the lead character just grates? It goes without saying that there is a further book in the pipeline, and I just hope there will be a continuous endless stream of further books in this series, but I just hope he does not take too long writing each! Enjoy the read. Well done Kel Kade.

Listened to all 4 books straight through. Engaging and memorable. Can't recommend these books for heroic fantasy fans, up there with the greats for me.

Great plot and main character

loved the series when it began, I like the fact that from almost the first moment we meet rezkin he is already skilled and indomitable, you dont get three books of build up instead straight into the actually story which is great, but I start to fear that with this last book the plot is suffering from Jordanisism and dragging out the story into unnecessary furtue books.

Loved this 4th instalment

I enjoyed this one much more than the 3rd book! It was great to get a taste of the other kingdoms and cultures and Nick Podehl has such an awesome range of accents. This series is turning into much more than the first two books gave away and I find myself always rooting for Rezkin, he’s a badass

Great, the superhero of the fantasy world

Great listen, riveting and engaging throughout. I only wish the narrator, who does a superb job with 99% of the characters, had picked a different voice for Frisha - but the acting is about as good as the character is written (not very well!). My only negative opinion however, very much enjoyed and would highly recommend!

Such a good book

The overall performance was great as the narrator was able to bring life and a sense of separation from the different characters in the book. The story was somehow a bit messy, but very linear when it came to the objectives presented to the protagonist.

A new great installment!

Although the third book was a bit of a dip in greatness from the first two, the fourth installment wastes no time soaring back up there with the first two installments excellent story, characters and twists. To cut a long review short, if you've listen to the other books then this is a must!!!

Satisfying and Simple

Great Young Adult fantasy.

Somehow the Innocence of the Rez is enjoyable rather than mind-numbing.
The psychology of the magic is fun.
Plot fast-paced but easy to pick-up.
Narrator has choice rhythm, easy to follow while distracted.
Charming enough that this usually more serious fantasy reader will be coming back.

I’ve been with this story from day one and the writing and narration never seems to fail with shocking and keeping me guessing. Great work and I cannot wait for the next book!! The plot and character development has been a pleasure to listen to.
