Publisher's Summary

Nathan and his family are on the run from a catastrophic polar shift - but the bitter cold is the least of their worries.

Nathan was led to believe Detroit would be the Promised Land, but when his family arrives they find a city struggling just to survive frigid conditions. Nathan’s old friend Stryker has made a safe haven in the ancient, Masonic building, but it soon becomes clear the comfortable life within his walls is unsustainable. Resources are running out fast, and with a new baby to feed and a son in need of medicine, Nathan and Cyndi face a difficult choice: dig in with the dangerously naive Stryker or head west to Wyoming with their friends Donie and Dave.

As Nathan debates this fateful decision, he learns the horrifying secret behind Stryker’s success. He knows deep down that he is unwilling to pay such a price for his family’s safety, but leaving the city is no easy matter when even the walls have eyes. Now, his family, Syd, and their friends will have to use all their skills to help each other escape, or die trying.

Great book

Great second book. Can't wait to see what happens next. Nate is always getting into something and meeting interesting people to help them on their journey. The narrator has done a great job and I really enjoy listening to him bring the characters tti life.

Killing Frost

Of COURSE I read Book 2 first! I liked it.It was good, not great.I didn't really care or get attached to any of the characters. They seemed a bit shallow to me. Had I read book 1 first, who knows. DC Newman was a good narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Solid story

The summary of this book really caught my attention. It's heavy post apocalyptic theme and the main story line is well done. The characters are interesting but sometimes a bit naive (which is a true depiction of how a lot of people might react in a situation like this). There's plenty of action intertwined within a plot that kept me quite interested; I finished the story in three days from start to finish. The narrator did a great job. He had a pleasant voice and voiced the characters well. I was given this review copy for free, enjoyed the book and am voluntarily providing this review.

'cause I dress like a pirate don’t mean I is one!

Not your average dystopian tale. This series is a conundrum in its own right. It is well-written and interesting to the point of driving me on to read more. On the other hand, I have a problem with Nathan that makes me want to close the book and throw it. Nathan is hopelessly naïve, continually making bad decisions, getting his family and friends in dire situations; some making the ultimate sacrifice. How they continue following this boob is beyond me. He has a good heart but as a leader leaves much to be desired. After the weird experience at the silo; luckily it could have been much worse, they are back on track heading for Casper, Wyoming.
