    "Good book"
What did you love best about Magyk?

I like the approach the auther took to the subject of magic and how it helps tie in with the fate of the characters involved.

What other book might you compare Magyk to and why?

I found that this book reminded me a little of the Diane Duane

    Which scene was your favorite?

When we learn the truth about who the characters really are.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found a few of the situations humerous and you become attached and care about the characters in the book.

    Any additional comments?

Enjoyable book and a good start to the series. The book strts out a bit slower than I would have liked but then picks up good momentum throughout the rest of the series.

I've been an Audie Awards judge since 2008. I have enjoyed audiobooks since the days when they were called "Books on Tape".

"For Potter Fans and Children of all Ages"

Great story. Much of the ending was predictable from the very start, but it is a childrens book. I would recommend this to my 10 year old neice. Fantastic narration of all the characters by Allan Corduner. Definately a 5 star performance. Imagry is fantastic. The story is fun and thoroughly enjoyable.

    "EXCELLENT!"

The Septemus Heap series is wonderful for both children and adults. It may seem that Sage was looking over Rowling's shoulder as she created some of the characters, but the storyline is very inventive and certainly engaging. What makes this Audible version so valuable is the reading from Allan Corduner. His voices are brilliant and the story comes alive.

    "For Kids"

This review is for adults who enjoy smart, fascinating, imaginative 'children's' books. This is NOT one of those. I decided to give this a try because more than one reviewer compared it to Pullman's His Dark Materials. I can't imagine why. 'Magyk' is a silly kiddies book, comparable to something like 'Inkheart', not 'The Amber Spyglass' or even Harry Potter.
It's well read and I'm sure the tots will enjoy it, but that's about it.
(Admittedly I could not bare to listen to more than half of this book, so perhaps it takes a magical turn toward interesting later on. But considering the childish style, predictable storyline and flat characters, I sincerely doubt it.)

    "Promising... but..."

The story wobbles between being too predictable ("Boy 412's" true identity was immediately obvious) and too random (the Deus-ex-machina of a buried ship from another era, that just happens to be alive? Oh, come on.)

However, the characters are reasonably engaging, and so are some of the story details. In addition, the reader is good - which always helps.

    Not my favorite, but passable.

    "Bad Harry Potter"

I will usually finish a book. I'll suck it up and get to the end, but I couldn't do it with this one. When the author puts in so much effort to make town walk seem like an epic journey (so much so that the protagonist is wondering how her mother is doing...as compared to 20 minutes ago) I have to bow out.
