    "Surprise ending - enjoyed that!"
What other book might you compare Magyk to and why?

If you enjoy Harry Potter, this should appeal to you

Have you listened to any of Allan Corduner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Nope.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Wait for it... (you'll get it if you listen)

    Any additional comments?

Plan to listen to the whole series.

"A great young adult/kids book for all"

I loved this whole series, and was sad that there were no more books in it. The charming, eccentric, humorous characters as seen from the kids' point of view were great. Plenty of suspense and scary stuff broken up by the fun and funny. Lots of magical goings on in a world dreamed up by a very imaginative author. I recommend it highly.

"Sort of derivative, but engaging enough"

This is definitely a children's book, as the language is very simple, and there's some repitition of more complicated storyline. Unlike the Harry Potter series, this is not as appealing to adults. But like Harry Potter, it involves magic, both good and bad, and would probably be enjoyable on a family car trip.
I found the narration enjoyable, even though the vocalizations of characters didn't differ much, one from another. It was more like a straight reading, rather than a more dramatic one.
My ratings are based on this being a children's book.

    "magyk to a gun fight"

    ***Spoilers***

On one hand a wizard can make someone dive in cold water, freeze, make them forget who are and replace their memories, while on the other hand some assassin is able to shoot the queen and a wizard while all the surviving wizard does is perform a 'shield spell'. Doesn't make sense.

The arch villain is supposed to be all powerful but while the boy is rescuing the wizard in front of him, all he can do is yell at the deck hands to find them. At the end he comes begging for the amulet (which hasn't been shown to have any powers in the whole book) disguised as a boy.

Harry Potter/Artemis Fowl this is not.

    "Book Was Magyk!"

This series was recommended to me a few years ago by another librarian, so I purchased it for my high school. I am now finally getting around to reading the books, thanks to Audible! One word kept coming up and I wondered if the reader could be pronouncing it incorrectly, which seemed strange since he was so good. I thought he was mispronouncing moat but I looked it up in the library's book and it was Mott.

As a teacher-librarian, I encourage students to get involved and predict what they think will happen. I enjoyed doing that with this book and was pleasantly surprised with twists and turns and enjoyed saying, "YES!" when my predictions came true.

Although the story was very interesting and enjoyable, I think it was listening to Corduner read was my favorite part! He, like so many readers for children/youth literature, was FABULOUS! He had so many different and interesting voices and accents.

    "Really good listen"
Where does Magyk rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high - I enjoyed the narration and the story.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters especially the ExtraOrdinary Wizard - she was cranky but endearing. The characters are mostly well drawn out, the story was well done - exciting but well-balanced with humor.

    "OK I guess"
Would you try another book from Angie Sage and/or Allan Corduner?

I would most likely try a Angie Sage book again. I would also try a book narrated by Allan Corduner gain.

What was most disappointing about Angie Sage???s story?

It wasn't very engaging. It was a childish book. I am not saying it was a book written for kids, because it was. I am saying it wasn't like Harry Pottor or Wizzard of Earthsea, mature but for kids.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I liked the narration performance of Allan Corduner.

    Any additional comments?

This book wasn't great. Maybe it's because I'm too old for this book. I went on and read more in the series hoping it would get better.
