Publisher's summary

DomDaniel returns in a hilarious escapade with the witches of the Port Witch Coven. In this tale that takes place between the stories told in Magyk and Flyte, the witches want DomDaniel's powerful Darke Toad - and will go to ridiculous lengths to get their hands on it. But first, Simon Heap must get his master to the Port Witch Coven's door, which may require a bit more Darke Magyk - and a much stronger stomach - than he bargained for. Is Simon up to the task?

Meanwhile, ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand has taken her young apprentice, Septimus Heap, on a field trip to the Port. But what Marcia had hoped would be a fun yet educational outing quickly turns chaotic, for it slipped Marcia's mind that tonight is Hallowseeth - the perfect night for Darke mischief to go unnoticed among the revelers.

With Angie Sage's characteristic humor, beloved characters, and Magykal setting, Septimus Heap: The Darke Toad is a must-listen for every Septimus fan.

Loved it

I’ve missed the world of Septimus Heap, so it was great to a new story, even a short one.

Marcia takes Septimus the port, and they find a little adventure. Familiar characters including Marcia, Septimus, the port witches and Jakie Fry, Dom Daniel, Simon Heap, and Alice Nettles

loved it as I love all of these books

somehow I skipped this book and read it last but it was good. I would change one thing about it though, and that would be the length it was too short lol

Welcome back to early days, Heaps

Very happy to have ***anything** in the Septimus Heap series, even if most of my disliked characters are in this one. But also several grand characters. It was a well-written addition to the world and plot, with some additional understanding of Simon...plus grand to see Septimus as a young boy again. Perfectly narrated.

If you thought the series was too dark

This little book serves as a palliative for those who thought the series was too dark. It gives the coven, Simon and DomDaniel more stage time too. Other than that, not sure what I got out of it.

Narrator Ruined It

I loved the first book so I instantly got this one and was so let down when I realized it has a different narrator. I tried really hard to get past it but it completely changed some of the characters because of the way he spoke for them. I won't be getting the rest as an audio but I will get the paperback.

Confussing start to this one

At the end of book one, the main bad guy dies, and in book two he's suddenly alive(ish) he is a set of bones walking around with Septimuses brother. it isn't until book two that they tell us how he is retrieved from his deadly slumber. This leaves you wondering what the hell happened... And doesn't answer that question until you start book two.

Other than the above problem the book and story were great... I enjoyed the narration and the story wholeheartedly.
