Critic Reviews

  • Audie Award Winner, Children's Titles - Ages 8 - 11, 2008

"A sweet family life...serves as the foundation for the story, which charts a tough week for Clementine, involving badly cut (and marker-dyed) hair, trouble with the principal, and a spat with a best friend." (Child magazine)"Fans of Judy Moody will welcome this portrait of another funny, independent third-grader." (Publishers Weekly)

Outstanding!

This was one of the best children's books I've read in a long time. My daughters (ages 5 and 7) love the creative heroine. And this mom loved the creativity of the author! Can't wait for more.

One credit for a 1.5 hr book!?

My daughter loved this story and wants me to buy her more Clementine stories. Normally, I'd have given a children’s book my kids really like 5 stars. But the Clementine series of audio books are outrageously pricey.

To purchase the 13.5-hour Clementine series, as my daughter would like, I’d have to spend 7 credits or $62.84 to purchase 7 audio books that average less than 2 hours in length. That’s nuts.

For comparison, I purchased the entire 19-hour Ramona Quimby series for a single credit. My daughter also loved those books and I liked them better.

Clementine is my kind of kid

If you could sum up Clementine in three words, what would they be?

Spunky, ingenious, lovable.

What did you like best about this story?

The narration makes Clementine pop out of the audio book and become part of the family. Clementine is so cute! It reminds me of myself and my children. A joyful listen, full of giggles

Which scene was your favorite?

Ok, fine. (You'll understand when you listen)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I cleaned house, made dinner, knitted and giggled the whole while. So did my family. Very cute.

HILLARIOUS!

What did you love best about Clementine?

It is absolutely hilarious. My kids laugh out loud. I repeat the lines. She does NOT use any words you would rather your children not repeat like "stupid." Good clean fun with insight into Clementine's mind. OK I listen to it when my kids are not with me!

What did you like best about this story?

I have listend to 3 Clementine books and this one has my favorite story. The charm of the books is Clementine's thought and reactions, so the plot is not that important. The story is uplifting about finding the talents a seemingly difficult child.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The way her parents, particularly her father, finds Clementine's strengths and gives her confidence is just wonderful.

Any additional comments?

This is a must read for any adult that has to deal with a child with attention deficit issues. Kids will LOVE the book too.

Great book. Tough transitions

I love this book even though I've heard it several times. The narrator does a great job of acting out the mind of a third grader.

My only problem with the audio book is the transition between chapters is often too fast to let the impact of the prior chapter sink in; e.g. she's saying "chapter 4" immediately after finishing the prior sentence.
