Publisher's Summary

Alvin Ho is an Asian-American second grader who is afraid of everything: elevators, tunnels, girls, and, most of all, school. He's so afraid of school that, while he's there, he never, ever, says a word. But at home he's a very loud superhero named Firecracker Man, a brother to Calvin and Anibelly, and a gentleman-in-training, so he can be just like his dad.

"Look's...intuitive grasp of children's emotions is rivaled only by her flair for comic exaggeration." ( Publishers Weekly)

Children’s literature

I thought it was a well structured book we have to criticize the book for our children’s a lit class I as a 23 year old believe the author did a good job (and as well the person reading it) because even though it is for a child it was well written. I think the definition and other things like the book is to advance until possibly 7th grade (personally I didn’t learn about Shakespeare till my freshmen year) but other then that I think it’s a good book for your kids to enjoy.

Great Read Aloud for Grade 3

I used this audio book as a read aloud for summer school. I projected the book on the board as the narrator (an adorable kid!) read it. The kids really liked the book and always looked forward to coming to the rug to listen to a chapter. My class did a project to do a review and presentation of the book at the end of summer school. All the kids voted and gave it a total of 3.8 stars! Most of them really liked it. I teach ESL so a few of the kids liked it less, but I think that was because it was a bit above their level. Great for 3rd graders!
