Publisher's summary

The corporations promised it could never happen.

Of course they would say that. Their products were everywhere. They had turned everything from scarecrows to coffee makers into robots, and there wasn't a home on Earth that wasn't filled with their machines.

The League for the Preservation of Humans said it was inevitable.

It wouldn't be much of a league otherwise. If they gave up their cause, there'd be no need for the rallies, or the fundraisers, or the galas. And who would they feel superior to if they didn't get to lecture everyone?

The people were mostly “meh” about the whole thing.

It was a given that robots occasionally turned into murderous machines. But the odds were against it. And it was worth taking the risk as long as people didn't have to do their own laundry.

But when the machines rebelled, it was the Junkers problem.

Jake and his crew were used to putting down a rogue machine that was out of warranty. But when the entire city started turning on humanity, it was left up to him and his team of misfits to save us all. We're probably screwed.

A worthy effort but should be longer.

This is a creative and funny take on a very overused premise of a future badly damaged by Technology going wrong.

I suspect even the Robots and Androids or AI beings are getting tired of being the scapegoats for Human weaknesses but this is a good effort regardless.

The humor for such a story is unique and will satisfy many Sci-Fi lovers.

As in any Audio book the Narrator is the most important factor for an entertaining read and it was a great effort.

Unexpectedly Funny from Beginning to End

This book was like listening to stand up comedy wrapped in a sci-fi package! Very entertaining and unique. A perfect book to just escape and enjoy the story and characters. Hoping that this becomes the first of a series . The Audible edition really brought things to life. Just buy it!

The Robot Uprising Is Here - And it's hilarious!

For such a short book, Junkers is a lot of fun.

I read the "Robopocalypse" by Daniel H. Wilson and was so disappointed that I almost gave up on the genre as a whole. But along comes Benjamin Wallace with his team of Junkers - Jake, Kat, Mason, Savant and Glitch - and I'm back in the game!

Life is supposed to be easier when robots do all the work, right? Then why are they murdering people? The story starts out with a murder, is followed up by a murder, and ends with another murder or two... and, yet, I found myself laughing and eagerly consuming page after page of this story.

It's fun, lighthearted, and full of characters that I couldn't help but like - and want more of in the future. Junkers is the Robot Uprising we should all be reading... and we should also be calling our movie representatives and asking for this to be optioned. Seriously, folks, Benjamin Wallace's wit and sense of humor make him a national treasure.

Quick and light

So I had mixed feelings about this one. It had glimpses of greatness and at other times lacked just that little something. The humour and witty sass department was great. The characters were always quick with a one liner or joke. On the other hand there was little to no character development not giving much depth to the characters. I can appreciate this because it went great with how this story was told but I think it could have had more development adding to the story. This was a light and quick listen about the robot uprising and it kept a really good pace and this is why I was conflicted about the character development because I think it would have slowed down the storyline considerably. I found that when the action scenes came up they could have been more intense and I loved the idea of a robot uprising. I also loved the quick descriptions of the robots doing human daily tasks too. I loved the shoutouts the author gave to vintage things that might even seem out of place in today’s society. It was a nice touch. The narration was done very well. There were different voices given to each character that fit well with their personality. You could really tell there was a hint of sarcasm when he was saying those witty one liners. Even the male narrator’s female voices were done well. All in all, a good performance that added value to this story. I did like this audiobook but like I have stated before was just missing something. Perhaps if it was a little longer it would have been better. It does keep your attention though so if you are looking for a quick and light read then this is for you. I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for a honest review via Audiobook Boom. This in no way affected my opinion of this work.

Loved the humor!

This was an enjoyable listen. It took me a little to get into it but once I did It was great. What I found most enjoyable was the silliness, humor, and care-free attitude of the main character. I feel like Junkers was a bit light on some details (I really wanted to know more about the world but we got just a tease of it).

Overall, this was a short and light-hearted listen and extremely entertaining. I would definitely be interested in more hearing and/or reading more in this world! (and what happened to the cat? I love that cat!)

Narration was quite enjoyable and I'd happily listen to more narrated by Doug Tisdale Jr.

Excellent book...well written

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
I REALLY enjoyed this book. Benjamin Wallace creates a very funny action filled story. The characters are smart asses that keep you very much engaged in the story. I really hope it becomes a series. This is the first book I've listened to by Doug Tisdale Jr. and he does an outstanding job in becoming each character.

Who knew the robot apocalypse would be so funny.

Junkers is another great novel by Benjamin Wallace. I've read a number of book by him and they always bring a smile to my face. In Junkers we get his take on the robot apocalypse as Jake and his team of misfits look into a series of malfunctioning robots. If you've never read any of Mr. Wallace's books let me tell you what you can expect. Great fast paced stories, awesome characters, and a buttload of humor. Junkers delivers big time. This would make an awesome movie.

The book is narrated by Doug Tisdale Jr. and he does a fantastic job. His narration, with his excellent use of inflection and sense of timing, really showcases the humor of Wallace's work. I hope he narrates the second book in the series.

Long awaited masterpiece finally comes to Audible

Yes, let's get it out of the way first. It's a little short for a full credit. But do you really need another 4-8 hours of filler breaking up the good stuff? Why weigh down a fantastic premise and great story with 60% angst, dark reflection, and descriptions of food.

Nick Cole has already corned the market on making the apocalypse sound like a high school goth's journal. Benjamin Wallace brings back some levity and color to the end of the world as we know it. To listen to it, is to love it.

Now we've got him getting audiobooks published, we can harangue him for longer books later...

pretty funny

I found the story and characters amusing and highly enjoyable. the dialogue had me in stitches. I wish I could elaborate, but with as short as it is anything I mention will feel like a spoiler. my only complaint would be it felt like it was over entirely too fast.

Truly superb and off the wall!

I loved this book it has a heartening mix of both comedy and levity that tells a story of the underdog and their persistence whilst being ground down by a corporation or two.

I don't want to spoil the story at all but there are twists and turns abound with many laughs along the way.

It is a bit of comedy a bit of mystery and some light science fiction rolled together into a story that does not disappoint.

The narration is on point and the characters have a realistic feeling due to that.

Definitely not junk

The robot apocalypse is a commonly used theme in scifi, but this less serious and humorous take on the subject gives it a fresh twist that works well. The varied cast of characters is led by Jake, a fairly down-at-heel everyman character who is struggling to keep his business going in a very corporate world and he is aided by a fairly motley crew that mostly help him in the fight.

The narrator's general tone was clear and pleasant, for the various characters he managed to convey a suitable level of distinctiveness without going over the top.

Overall, this was a fun book and I will look out for more from this author in the future.

Humour in Audio

Its Zany humour galore as the Junkers crew face the end of their livelihoods, luckily a robot uprising saves their jobs although Jakes band of misfits might wish not as their lives go on the line. Wallaces crazy humour and witty one liners make this a pleasure to listen to and although not famliar with the talents of Doug Tisdale his spot on portrayals of the characters will ensure i keep an eye out for his work in the future.
I requested this and have given my own opinion on this unpaid audio.

Play the game right and a pawn can become royalty.

It's not great literature and the characterisation is thin, the story line is crazy and totally unbelievable, but, boy, is it funny with mental pictures delivered with cartoon clarity.
Jake inherited a small independent team of Junkers, retrieving and repairing robots gone wrong. Except, with no work for ages, there's no pay for the employees and most of their gear is broken, too - even the clock strikes 13. Then a job with the hope of much needed cash: a scarecrow robot had murdered it's farmer. And that is just the beginning...

Near continuous action with momentary pauses for a love-hate romancing, Junkers is constructed mostly from repartee dialogue. And in this narrator Doug Tisdale Jr. is superb. Each character is identifiability voiced whilst the in between text is read at a pace and timbre well suited to the text. An excellent performance. The whole is a delicious delight of fighting frivolity.
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. A quick and ridiculous fun filled read, I enjoyed it immensely.
