Publisher's summary

Kane Andrews is just another one of the billions of people on Earth who watch as Richter, the world's first superhuman, goes on a rampage. All the world's military cannot stop him, no matter what they throw his way. Until, with the whole world watching, Kane surprises himself by flying up to catch someone the supervillain has thrown off a building. With no idea of the extent or magnitude of his powers, Kane has a long way to go before becoming the first superhero. He must stay one step ahead of both Richter and the rest of the world while he figures out how to take down his nemesis. Time is running out, though, and Richter will do whatever it takes to make sure that he's Earth's only superhuman.

Author need a physics lesson

I liked the book but I kept breaking from the fantasy every time they messed up how fast sound travels. At one point the hero was flying toward the villain and broke the sound barrier causing a sonic boom. The author then states that this alerted the villain... You can figure out rest... It happened with a gun later... It just killed the fun for me.

Feels like it's written by a child

I had to give up on this part of the way through it. I couldn't take the poor vocabulary, empty husks of characters, or completely predictable story any longer. As much as I love super hero novels, this one isn't worth struggling through.

Really wanted to like this one more.

The story was standard fare. That's fine, I was looking for something along those lines; unfortunately, the fight scenes quickly became repetitive. So many of the problems that this story had could have been solved with a thesaurus; the word "punch" has so many synonyms that are also far more descriptive, cinematic and have greater impact that one could fill a page with them. The sequel was only marginally better in this regard; Mr. Rutherford has a wonderful idea that he struggles to express to us, with this series.
The potential is there for some good old fashioned pulp fun, but it's hamstrung by simplistic expression.

Couldn't finish it

It really seemed to be written by a teen. Not saying that I could read better, but the narrator was one reason I quit the book. Good premise, but jeez.

it was ok

This book feels like is was written by a teen with out too much science. If you can take the bad logic like sonic booms reaching a target faster than the supersonic object, then the story is ok. It was also very short. It could have spent more time on Character development and description and been a much better book.

A solid realistic yet classic superhero story.

While the story itself is extremely reminiscent of most classic superhero tales from the golden age, its modern take and realistic depictions of situations and scenarios that affect the main character and his supporting cast are engrossing and relatable enough to make you want to find out what happens next.

Has a Few Good Moments and Its a Nice Start

Its a decent Superhero book. The characters are likable , although not developed enough to be lovable. The antagonist is interesting, but not a lot of depth either.. it's just a decent book. I'll probably get the 2nd book when it comes out to see where this goes.

Thought it was optional

felt like it could have been longer and more in depth. It was a little shallow. Hope the next one is better

change of pace

if you're looking for a an original concept for the superhero genre you will probably like this it's a little dark and gritty if you're a fan of the boys then this is probably something you would enjoy.
