Publisher's Summary

The perfect next listen for fans of Megan Miranda and Jessica Knoll, In Her Skin is a gripping debut thriller told from the perspectives of three unforgettable women.

Meggie Meyer, an anxiety-ridden debut author, can’t bear to face her upcoming book tour, but she can’t give up on her writing career just as it’s about to really begin. She comes up with a plan that’s so crazy, it just might work: She hires an actress to impersonate her for the two-week stint. Sloan Buchanan, the spunky aspiring actress, jumps at the opportunity to use her intensive acting method to sink into this unusual role, and the line between her and her character quickly begins to blur. And Rachel Drake, the no-nonsense detective, is left to put the pieces together when Sloan vanishes after the tour’s end.

In rotating chapters from these three unique voices, we unravel the complicated web of secrets that Sloan left in her wake, working towards the shocking truth behind her disappearance.

Wonderful binge-worthy novel!

This novel kept me engaged from the beginning and wanting more at the end. I really enjoyed the writer’s style and use of three separate perspectives as the narration switched from the vantage of each of three main characters. Author Alex Kiester’s writing draws you into each of the women’s lives and weaves intersecting worlds, and just as you start to feel comfortable, the plot thickens and twists in the most delightful way. Masterfully written and narrated. This is a must-listen!

Fabulous!!!

I loved every minute of this captivating mystery, and was quite tickled that I had so many theories of how it might end that none was a sure thing. I genuinely felt the emotions of the main characters because of the wonderful writing. I was truly in their skin! The author clearly did her research into both detective work and acting while also sharing her insights into the world of novel writing. I enjoyed the evolution of all of the relationships in the book, too, especially between the two detectives. Great character development all around! I lost sleep listening to this book because I had to know what happened. This was the first time I didn’t put a sleep timer on the book when I crawled into bed to listen to the last few chapters. I knew I couldn’t sleep until I finished it! The performers were three of my very favorite Audible narrators, and, as always, they did a marvelous job. I am a platinum Audible member, so I listen to their books daily, and this was one of my very favorites. Well done, Alex Kiester! I can’t wait until your next novel!

Awesome Missing Persons Mystery!!!

Amazing!!! The book was an addicting missing persons case told from the point of view of 3 different characters: the actress who is missing, the writer who's anxiety drove her to hire the actress to play her on her book tour, and the detective assigned to the case following leads. The audio book is narrated by 3 separate actresses, each playing one of the main characters. The main characters' feelings are so relatable and the audio narrators acting is so spot on that I was quickly immersed in the story, each of the characters, and could't wait to hear it all play out. I can't wait for my friends to finish reading it so we can talk about the ending!!!

Draws you in from the start...

I am fairly new to “listening” to books but found myself having to set time limits throughout the day for this one wanting to know what was going to happened next. The voices literally put you there. Can’t wait to start my next Audible book and especially looking forward to the next Alex Kiester novel. Put this book on your must-read list!

Delectable twists and hidden depths

There were several moments when I thought I knew where this story was going but then it would take me by surprise. It went places I wasn’t expecting at all and the ending really affected me. Each of the three main characters were well developed and the three readers performed their parts sooooo well. I was in the mood for a female detective story with a twisted mystery at its heart and IN HER SKIN gave me just what I was looking for.

A Decent Thriller

I was given this book for review in exchange for an honest opinion.

I wasn't sure what I was going to think of this one as it's a new to me author and sometimes I am hit or miss with thrillers. I ended up really enjoying this one though so I am glad I got a chance to listen too it.

It's told in the POV of three different women and we know that Sloane is missing but we are not sure when it happened. We get the Rachael the detective's pov which is why we know something has happened. Then we have the povs of Meggie a new author who has bad anxiety and so she hires an actress Sloane to portray her at book tours and any public speaking engagements. Sloane thinks it will be a pretty easy gig and she likes Meggie and really gets into her role.

Through these two POV's we start to find out what happens piece by piece and from that I pretty much had it figured out though there were a few surprises.

I really liked all three POV's and they are portrayed by three different narrators but I must admit that for performance I would give it about a 3.5 because I couldn't tell the difference between narrators. I think they picked females with to similiar of voices and I didn't' realize there was three narrators till later on when I looked up the narrator! That being said I didn't mind the narration and thought it was a decent performance.

If you enjoy thrillers I think you should check this one out and I am curious to see what else comes from this author.

Excellent book in every way

The book, suspense, and narration were all perfect for this novel. I listen continuously to audiobooks and rarely write reviews but this has been one of the beat books I read this year by far. Highly recommend- it’s addictive and hard to put down

Compelling Mystery with So Much More!

Solving the mystery of the missing actress would have kept me listening, but what stayed with me is the three complex female characters. All three are trying to deal with their own challenges and are flawed but completely sympathetic. The rotating chapters in each of their voices reveal layers of complexity about Sloan's acting ambition, Meggie's anxiety and Rachel's detective career. I love a good mystery but this level of character development and psychological insight is what makes for a memorable story like this. Alex is a first time author that I'll be watching for again.

Get ready to be hooked

Can’t believe how hooked I got by this book. I quickly realized this wasn’t a multi-tasking opportunity, this book monopolizes your attention. Do not listen to at work unless you have really good job security. I thankfully haven’t been fired yet and was able to thoroughly enjoy this book. Every part is interesting and you never know where it is headed. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Also, if you live in Austin it’s especially fun to go the places in the book as you’re listening.
