Publisher's Summary

It’s every mother’s nightmare...but one she will not accept.

In an unthinkable flash, Emmy Fisher’s 15-year-old daughter, Leah, seemingly drowns close to shore one summer night - at least that is what the police report says.

In deep grief, Emmy needs time and courage before she can enter Leah’s bedroom. But when she does, she finds something at first bewildering, then unspeakable, as she begins to understand the full implications....

She uncovers evidence that Leah had been secretly involved with someone, someone perhaps older, someone with dark appetites.

Bit by bit, the last few months of Leah’s life unfold in a terrifying way that Emmy can hardly imagine.

All she knows is that she has to find the person who took her sweet daughter’s innocence. No matter the cost.

The truth will set her free. Or bury her.

Wow. Reconstructing Amelia + Fiona Barton + Lisa Jewell

Wow this book was great, it was so well-written, fantastic take on an overused storyline. It is somewhat in the vein of “Reconstructing Amelia” but not as dark and there’s more story-telling, background, and story-weaving like Fiona Barton and Lisa Jewell. This is NOT your typical child-goes-missing/tragedy story where parents find out the truth afterwards or too late and are tortured by what they uncover and the whole book is just backstory to how it happens in the first place — it’s more involved than that. The author wove a great web of details that were all significant and came to fruition at just the right times. I read her other book and this was nothing like it, it was substantially better and the writing style was much improved and different. Overall, I was very surprised and I highly recommend this book — great narration as well.

I thought I had it figured out the whole time, but I was wrong. Very alarming and informative. I will definitely read more books by Courtney Evan Tate. Narrator was excellent.
