Publisher's Summary

It’s every mother’s nightmare...but one she will not accept.

In an unthinkable flash, Emmy Fisher’s 15-year-old daughter, Leah, seemingly drowns close to shore one summer night - at least that is what the police report says.

In deep grief, Emmy needs time and courage before she can enter Leah’s bedroom. But when she does, she finds something at first bewildering, then unspeakable, as she begins to understand the full implications....

She uncovers evidence that Leah had been secretly involved with someone, someone perhaps older, someone with dark appetites.

Bit by bit, the last few months of Leah’s life unfold in a terrifying way that Emmy can hardly imagine.

All she knows is that she has to find the person who took her sweet daughter’s innocence. No matter the cost.

The truth will set her free. Or bury her.

Wow. Reconstructing Amelia + Fiona Barton + Lisa Jewell

Wow this book was great, it was so well-written, fantastic take on an overused storyline. It is somewhat in the vein of “Reconstructing Amelia” but not as dark and there’s more story-telling, background, and story-weaving like Fiona Barton and Lisa Jewell. This is NOT your typical child-goes-missing/tragedy story where parents find out the truth afterwards or too late and are tortured by what they uncover and the whole book is just backstory to how it happens in the first place — it’s more involved than that. The author wove a great web of details that were all significant and came to fruition at just the right times. I read her other book and this was nothing like it, it was substantially better and the writing style was much improved and different. Overall, I was very surprised and I highly recommend this book — great narration as well.

So Many Twists!

I really liked this book. It grabbed me from the beginning. There are so many twists it keeps you going. The ending is satisfying, tho I did figure out the bad guy before the end. The narrator was excellent and I'm very picky about narrators. I'm going to look for more books by Tate and hopefully they'll have this narrator. Highly recommend.

Emotional and riveting

I couldn’t stop listening! So good- and really tugs on your heartstrings. The characters had depth and their emotions were so raw and relatable. The narrator was fantastic.

I thought I had it figured out the whole time, but I was wrong. Very alarming and informative. I will definitely read more books by Courtney Evan Tate. Narrator was excellent.

Performance exceptional, story gripping

Great riveting performance, a master in deflection. Story had me in tears several times in the beginning. I must say to my advantage I listened to this book without reading the book details. I picked it in a hurry based of title and shear hast and no regrets. With that being said I’m glad I did and glad I didn’t read the summary. I was able to predict a large portion of it all though not entirely so that was good. I did not think the author gave enough clues for the guess to be made so that was not entirely fair for those of you who want to try to solve it. Luckily I like to listen and find out. As with any books much could of been improved, but the performance was able to take the lack of compete non-complex story and turn it into a good listen. So the overall for me was a good rating with that in mind. I suggest for those of you that can get around the little pieces that were not complete or improvements to at could of been made to the writing by the overshadowing of a great reader then you will love this book! Def worth their time.

One of my favorites

Started a little slow but quickly had me listening every chance I had. I listened to it in 3 days, so as you can tell I was really absorbed into it. One of those where you think you know the ending, but it keeps you guessing. Do I?
