Publisher's Summary

“Spellbinding. Another outstanding novel by Kimberly Belle, masterfully written to lure you in and never let go.” (Samantha Downing, USA Today best-selling author of My Lovely Wife)

When Charlotte married the wealthy widower Paul, it caused a ripple of gossip in their small lakeside town. They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young woman’s body floating in the exact same spot where Paul’s first wife tragically drowned.

At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police he’s never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two.

As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesn’t know what to trust - her heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that there’s something he’s hiding in the water.

Absolute rubbish.

Boring and predictable. Incredibly tedious dialogue. The worst narration I have ever suffered through. The narrator speaks with a quavery voice as if she is about to cry the ENTIRE book. Just horrific.

Terrible, boring, sad, pointless story

Such a disappointment, especially after Dear Wife which I loved! Nothing redeeming about this book and I'll think long and hard before purchasing another by this author.

Ugh! Don’t waste your money

I disliked this book because of the main chacter,Charlie. At every turn, she’s a total idiot, changing sides from someone’s innocence to guilty at the drop of a hat. And a complete disregard to how much pain she caused to others for her own self satisfaction. Also, she seemed to enjoy causing pain, especially to Paul

Reader was so hard to understand!

I really have enjoyed all of Kimberly Belles books; but this one! It might have been a good story if the reader pronounced the words more clearly. I had a hard time following the story

Loved this!

I preordered this audible and it did not disappoint. The characters came to life with the narrators southern drawl and I loved how you could feel the emotions in her voice. Despite the rumors in their small town Charlotte loves Paul (and not for his money) and doesn't believe what happened to his first wife was anything but a tragic accident. One woman's body found under Pauls' dock can be an accident, but can two? As the cracks appear and she learns more about her new husband and his past, Charlotte isn't sure what to believe and for good reason. Like all good thrillers, Belle delivers some serious plot twist at the end, what you don't expect is for them to keep coming like they do. This was a fantastic listen that I couldn't get enough of. I would absolutely recommend adding this to your list.

Just ok...

I have read all of the novels by Kimberly Belle and unfortunately this one was my least favorite. I thought the female lead, Charlie/Charlotte, was a martyr. I also figured out who the villain was pretty early on but there was a little twist. I did like how the two different stories went back and forth and intertwined. All in all I felt like I was underwhelmed when the book ended.

Story fell flat for me

The setting was described beautifully but the rest of the book dragged on. Charlotte/Charlie's complaining drove me nuts but the rest of the characters I found intriguing. Overall it was kinda boring with zero twists I saw the ending coming from the beginning. Narration was good though which helped.

A nice slow burn

I listened to this one via Audible and it was probably the quickest listen I’ve done in a long time. Xe Sands southern twang narration was spot on. This book was a bit of a slow burn mostly told by Charlotte (Charlie) and the various relationships with her husband and friends and mother in law and the suspicions of the lady she finds in the lake. The last few chapters are action packed but what I loved the most was at the end and the words “everyone is in charge of our own destiny”. Seems so relevant in our current times. Loved the location of this one; very familiar with the area and had a good visual of scenery.

Xe Sands

4 stars only because the narrator did such a great job. Xe Sands always adds to a story.
