Publisher's Summary

The explosive sequel to the international best-seller, The Faithful.

For decades, I Fidele's soulless leaders kidnapped psychic children and sharpened their gifts into weapons used to reshape humanity. Ryanne Jervis was one such child, but she learned the truth too late to stop I Fidele from implementing the first part of their plan: global destruction and the incineration of millions of innocent lives.

Now the impact winter has come, cloaking the earth in smoke, cold - and silence. Isolated on a compound in the mountains of Colorado, Ryanne is haunted by visions of the second phase of I Fidele's new world order: the round-up and brutal internment of all survivors. Seeking absolution for their part in the fall of humanity, and determined to save those who remain, Ryanne's small group of Blasphemare must turn I Fidele's most prized weapon - their own children - against them.

YA Fiction for Us Older Folks - A Good Listen

The second installment in The Faithful takes up where the first book left off, setting out at an uneven jog before finally breaking into a full sprint to the finish line. Much of this book is dedicated to world building, laying out the mythos behind the magic and preparing for the final battle to come. A few new characters enter the fray and we get to know the original gang a little better, with all the requisite angst and drama. While the story plays a bit like Young Adult fiction, some of this content is much more on the adult side. Not that I'm complaining, just passing it along. The narrator isn't memorable, but she handles the subject matter skillfully enough, juggling a lot of characters and points of view without difficulty. I plunked down $7 (ran out of credits) for this one and I have no regrets. Be warned ... this book had its own conclusion, but it is clearly a set up for more of the tale yet to come. You may be waiting a while for the next installment.

the first book in series- amazing, the second- not

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The first book from the series was rally good and interesting-I rated it with five stars. The second book did not fulfill my expectations though. It turned out to be different from the first one- it was more like Harry Potter book, les realistic less believable. I suppose that author was also inspired by the S. King's novel The Stand but the author missed the case..In King's novel I felt the post- apocalyptic world where the main characters were struggling for every day lives... Here it was other way around, I would compare it with Harry Potter playing in some desolate place... therefore I would appreciate more detailed description of the post- apocalyptic world and less magic.

Not Good

The first book in the series was ok so I thought I would give the second one a try to see if it improved and to see how the story continued. For me, it didn't improve and the the ending was so abrupt. Maybe it just wasn't my type of story. Tanya did a very good job.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

This is a beautiful story of redemption & "True Grit"; flawlessly written and narrated. Post apocalyptic literature at its best. Ms Freedman & Ms Eby, I thank you both for the hours of enjoyment these two books gave me.
