In this sweeping, threaded narrative of the global phenomenon known as the Vampire Wars, mankind is unwittingly infected by a millennia-old bacteria unknowingly exhumed by a scientific expedition in Antarctica. Now, in some rare cases, a person’s so-called junk DNA becomes activated. Depending on their racial and ethnic heritage, they begin to manifest one of the many diverse forms of the "others" that are the true basis for the legends of supernatural creatures. These aren’t your usual vampires and werewolves - it goes much deeper than that.

Publisher's summary
If humans want to take the Earth back, they'll need to survive the night.
The Savage Earth, Book 1:
It's been over a century since the humans lost the war for Earth. Cities have been reclaimed by nature, and the planet is quiet and empty by day. At night, feral vampires - more beast than man - roam the lands, hungry for blood. The few thousand surviving humans live on a massive airship that circles the Earth, moving with the rotation of the planet so it's always in sunlight.
Alexandria Goddard is a member of the elite Ground Mission Team, a group tasked with making dangerous runs to the planet's surface for the supplies needed to keep the ship airborne. But even as the team fights for their people's survival, dangerous forces are working against them. A growing movement aboard the airship believes it's time for humans to resettle the Earth, and they are willing to go to extreme measures to make their vision a reality. As the situation aboard the ship becomes more desperate, Alex and her team discover a terrifying secret about the vampires infesting the Earth.
The Savage Night, Book 2:
Night is coming for Alex. Danger from the vampires below. Turmoil in the city above. Nowhere is safe and every day is a battle.
As Alex struggles to become the leader her team needs, she must contend with new allies and old enemies to have any chance of saving the city she loves. Nothing the Ground Mission Team has faced so far can prepare them for what's next. But if their mission is successful, the world will change forever.

AMAZING Mixture of "Hell Divers" and "Underworld"
I loved these two books and I'm praying that Audible releases the rest of the series.
The narration was good, Therese Plummer was a great voice for Alex although it was a little weird hearing her voices for the men you get used to it fairly quickly.
It's an awesome plot and I'm amazed at the authors' ability to come up with such an idea. The feral's ability to come back to human form was great and made the story so much more interesting when it comes to the moral and ethical episodes of the story. Speaking of morality the politics are not boring like in most books,
Fleming plays a very believable villain and C.B. and Alex are amazing heroes. Everybody rate this book FIVE STARS as we need to get the rest transferred to audio!!!

Plot Holes Abound!
If you’re the type of listener who hates plot hole riddled stories then stay far away from this book. The concept in this twist on the vampire story has great potential. The narration is pretty good with the voicing conveying the drama and tension at the proper moments. The story is the problem. The lead character is often so dumb and self focused it’s hard to make me believe that their supposed to be a potentially great leader. The fact that this technological marvel of a floating city is able to survive for 150 years but is completely unprepared for a major failure of their most critical systems. I won’t say any more to avoid any spoilers but that’s only the beginning of things that don’t make sense. It’s a decent mindless sort of listen and I’m glad I got it on Audible Plus and didn’t waste a credit. Be warned!

Go Alex!!!
I am a huge fan of paranormal stories, especially vampire and other races stories. This book is the beginning of an excellent series and this story in particular is not as far fetched as most.
In this story, vampires became known to humans when they suddenly started to over run the human race. A few humans managed to build an air ship the size of a city, that was 150 years ago and the descendants of those original survivors are the 40,000 now living on NEW HAVEN. They have a group of highly trained military soldiers who go to the surface (earth) when parts are needed. The city is self sustaining including having a farming area to feed everyone. The earth is still over run with feral vamps but a group on the ship is pushing for resettlement to earth. 1 politician in particular is heading this charge and is ruthless to no end and very smart politically. N3W HAVEN is run by a council or was....
Definitely worth the credit and the time. I am now going to dive into the 2nd book which is actually stories 3&4. Can't wait!!!
Give this series a try if you like JR RAIN, CHLOE NEILL, KEVIN HEARN, TANANARIVE DUE. ETC. (plz excuse my mis spellings)

How many times can a person screw up and still be hailed a hero? How dumb can the good guys be? What’s the limit of common sense when the alternative is death? For answers to all these questions and more, listen to this book.

Well, she ain't Starbuck.
The main character, Alex, is like a knock off Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica. The problem is she is dumb as a box of rocks. She doesn't follow orders, foolishly and repeatedly puts her team at risk, naively believes flashy politicians but not her commanding officer, and can quickly change her opinion from one extreme to the other. The idea that she would be allowed to not only keep her very important position, but be put in rolls of leadership, is ludicrous. She is ENTIRELY unlikable and the way she is admired, trusted and liked by her colleagues and higher ups is unbelievable.
Now, the story premise was actually interesting. The execution lacked depth and logic, but there's promise there. And I enjoyed the narrator. I finished book 1 and started book 2, but Alex just kept getting more idiotic, and less likeable, so I gave up.

Great premise, but lacks depth.
I like the whole idea of the story, but this series lacks depth and character development. If New Haven has survived 150 years and has 40,000 people on board, how have they made it. What does this city even look like? How does this nuclear reactor actually function to keep this ship afloat? Why is there only one fully trained GMT team? It's idiotic, especially given the repeated pounding to death that every mission is highly deadly. You'd think that several teams would exist that have experience. Yet we are supposed to believe that there's only one team of around 7 people that are fully trained to be the GMT. It's also the norm that as soon as a highly trained GMT dies they just pull in a rookie "cop" off the street to take their position. This "militarized" force it's laughable and I'm left shaking my head at how ridiculous it is. All that said, it's a light amateur read and not unenjoyable despite its numerous flaws. I just hate to see a tale with potential suffer from the authors unwillingness to research and dig a little deeper to sell this tale. Readers Digest quality rating achieved.

Predictable Plodding
I thought that I would enjoy this and as it came as an included title I had nothing to loose. I got through the first book, however i spent a lot of time annoyed at the characters and found myself wanting them all to die……… Then came book two, with a bit of character development and some backstory, unfortunately the back story sort of led me down the rabbit hole of, yes i can work out what comes next….so skipped most of the second book to listen to the last part where I found I was correct. I am glad that I skipped as there are two many books in my wish list to sit being annoyed at story I am not enjoying.

Great world, bad characters
I loved the world building in this book. ( it says it's 2, but it's 1). The setting is very interesting and the history of the world is fed to you bit by bit. The characters (mainly the lead) is where i had the biggest problems. While they do get better, they annoyed the hell out of me during the first half of the book. I don't know if i'm just not the target audience of this book, but the characters feel 2 dimensional to me. Only read if you really like post-apocalyptic settings.

thrilling story, well written and a very good!
I got this on the free catalogue between credits but wow! love it!
I will be picking up the rest of the series, very well-written, with fantastic lore and faithful to the vampire rules (as far as I'm aware) and thank the maker the vamps don't sparkle.
can't recommend enough.

A great adventure
Tense sometimes and not stopping soon.Generating sympathy and fear for those who have been done in by politics.
Yet lots of actions and determination by a team refusing to let obstacles take them down

Stupid
all the characters are idiots, acting without logic to advance the plot. main character is insufferable and immature but the world bends to accommodate her. could not finish. good narrator though

A surprisingly good listen
When I saw this for free as part of my membership I downloaded it without many expectations, and kept it as a spare for when I Finnished my Maine backlog, I thought it would be some teen vamp twilight knockoff, but it's pleasantly intelligent, it's got politics, interesting and realistic team dynamics. The narrator struggles to make male voices distinct from each other, but it's a minor thing and doesn't really distract from the story. I also like how they don't go too magical with the vamps, it's got hints of fantasy, but for the majority it's all grounded and exiting.

Why all the hype ?
To me this is a rip off of hell divers and I just couldn't get past that. The narration was very good and the action sceens are well done, however the main character is one of the biggest problems. She goes from being an hero to a zero and flips back and forth between the two and I just don't get it, it's annoying as a listener.
I wish I could give half stars on the app so for a more accurate rating:
Overall 2½ stars
Performance 3½ stars
Story 2 stars

Action packed
A great start to a series. The world building and characters are very well described. The emotions created in me the reader are quite strong I feel anger at the ‘bad’ people and needed tissues when sad moment’s presented themselves. The narrator was clear and put expression into the read. I am anxious to read the next book.

There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

Story
Since childhood Nila Carter has been made to spend every weekend at the family cabin. In her teenage years she believes it to be a prison; as an adult it becomes her sanctuary and means to survive. When a mysterious outbreak occurs in India, Nila's brother, Bobby, a virologist with the CDC, places the family on a precautionary alert to be ready to bug out. Unlike anything he's ever seen, the rabies-like virus is not just deadly; it causes extreme violent behavior in those infected.
