Sound mixing was quite poor.

I get that this is an audio drama and not an audiobook. I have spent many hours listening to old radio audio dramas and they can be wonderful.

But this? At several points, all I could hear was a cacophony. During those times I should have been hearing dialogue with backgound noise/music. What I got, upsettingly frequently, was noise with dialogue that I couldn't understand in the background somewhere. That should not happen.

I love Skippy. I genuinely enjoyed the story. Mulgrew as Nagatha really fit to me and I loved hearing her cut loose. RC Bray, as always, was fantastic. In fact, each of the actors performances was wonderful with a couple of notable exceptions.

But what can a performer do when their performance is drowned out after they gave it?

I, sadly, can only recommend this with warnings attached.

Not everybody can voice act.

R. C. Bray was brilliant as usual, Quinto, mulgrew, and Picardo were good, alot of the other voice acting was horrible. I almost had to turn off the audio book everytime Fray had a speaking part. She sounded more like a drunk girl trying to flirt at a party then an elite operator in the military. The sound FX and music were annoying and distracting. The book was good like all of his books except for one thing. Lets stop pretending that all spec ops from other countries are anywhere near the same level. America and Great Britain yes. Russia, France, or China maybe. But Canada, India, or any country from Africa no way man. It would be like taking a high school baseball team and having them play in the Major leagues.

Harken's back to yesteryear

What an interesting and novel way to inject a different perspective on one of the absolute best written and read series this century. Having only ever heard of "the way it was" from my grandparents who raised me, I never really knew what it was to listen to the radio and hear a live story read to me. From that perspective alone it was genius. Were there some quirks, most respectfully yes there were. Was it easy to overcome those, buy putting your mindset back in to the 1930's and 40's radio listening child's mind, absolutely. Would I want the rest of the series performed this way, probably not, there are far too many nuances Craig embues in his writing style to do this consistently. Would I listen to another short story spin off in the manner, from this writer, producer and reader, again absolutely.

Keep up the great work Craig and RC!

RC Bray did a better job on his own

Interesting story, though performance by some of the other characters were a bit, cringie. But it's an interesting story though.

Amazing Drama, Mixing needs work

Long live Skippy! I loved the story and found the dramatic production was really so much fun. Careful though, I almost crashed while listening because I was laughing so hard. This is NOT an audiobook, just remember that and everything is great. The one weakness I found is that the mixing made hearing dialogue in action scenes extremely difficult at times. This was especially noticeable on lower quality headphones and speakers (I listen on probably 6 different devices depending on where I am).

Craig Alanson delivers again!

Another fantastic installment in the Exhibitionary Force Series. Story and performance are once again excellent. This audio drama, while a departure from the traditional and always amazing R.C. Bray narration process, should not frighten you away from purchasing this title. What an amazing experience to hear such amazing talent bring all the beloved book characters to a new level of life in the minds eye. RESPECT THE AWESOMENESS!

The Tale of Sir Skippy.

As told from his own particular idiom. This story would be totally worth the $30 for one part of the audio drama alone. Thankfully, all the rest of it is awesome too. It takes a bit of getting used to, but all things are explained and reasonable. Give it a chance. The magnificence of RC Bray makes all things good in time.
