I like how the author gave examples of the very subtle behaviors the EI uses to emashes themselves with the internalized individual for their own needs. She also explains how this was a learned behavior from childhood - a habit that can be unlearned

Her compassion and empathy are easily felt and heard

This audiobook has helped recognize the many ways I have been negatively impacted by my emotionally immature mother and to begin to heal. Listening to this, I had multiple moments where my paradigm completely changed, where I realized something that I’d thought was a ‘me’ problem is actually a symptom of how I was (and continue to be) treated by my mother. I have tools now from this audiobook that are helping me to make peace with myself and realize that I’m not a bad person for not making my mother the center of my life. So much of what she does and says are textbook examples of what the author describes, and there is great relief in knowing that the toxicity in our mother-daughter relationship follows the predictable pattern of emotionally immature parent-child dynamics.

Life-changing

The author’s reading adds to the authenticity of what she is saying. Everyone can learn from this. It is about having a healthy relationship with yourself first and foremost. The rest will follow.
