Maycroft Mysteries Set: Books 1-5

Check out this set of the first five books in the Maycroft Mysteries series!

Deena Sharpe is a retired teacher, but she’s not quite ready to be retired... she keeps finding herself caught up in the middle of the local mysteries, and wouldn’t you know it, she has a knack for solving them.

Lisa B. Thomas has written a great series with interesting storylines and great characters. When you add the talented Kelley Hazen as the narrator, you get hours of entertainment!

I was given this free review copy audiobook set at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Get Sharpe

Get Sharpe is the first five books in the series by Lisa B. Thomas. Each book is a standalone listen, featuring Deena Sharpe, retired teacher, now journalist/investigator. I love how each story goes its own direction and has original suspects. Kudos to the author for changing things up. Kelley Hazen is amazing performing these stories. She gives the characters distinguishable voices, so one knows exactly whom is speaking. Her emotions are spot on! I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will most definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Hard to listen too.

The story seemed good enough but the narration was hard to listen to. It seemed to be read with awkward phrasing and almost sing song at times. I returned it after about an hour.

Suspenseful

Loved this outstanding story. Deena is amazing. Quits her teaching job after thirty years and ends up solving a mystery instead. The narrator as always made it come alive.

Great Read

Get Sharpe: Maycroft Mysteries, Books 1-5 by Lisa B. Thomas was a great read. Deena has retired from teaching after thirty years of teaching. She now finds herself investigating different murders and mysteries. This box set consists of; Sharpe Shooter, Sharpe Edge, Sharpe Mind, Sharpe Turn and Sharpe Point. I loved reading about Deena and all the different mysteries that are happening in her town. I can't wait to read more by Lisa B. Thomas.

Worst reading in 25 years

While the first books in the series may have been good, and in many cases funny, the reading by Kelly Hazen was the absolutely worst I have ever heard in well over 25 years of listening to books on tape from years ago to the current crop of wonderful audible books. The voices were flat in many cases and screeching in others. Too cartoonish and totally unbelievable in others. Many of the characters, especially men, all sounded the same with so little difference it was hard to tell them apart. Honestly I couldn't finish the series as much as I wanted to. And for me that is saying a lot. I love to read, or in this case listen, and it takes a real bummer for me to give up. I have friends who grew up in the type of small town Texas environment, in which the story was set, so that was of interest and there was some interesting character development but other's were just too stereotyped for reality. I was very disappointed.

Don’t know if I can finish-apologies.

Narration is almost unbearable. It hurts to listen. I’m going to try, but no promises.

Great Omnibus of Small Town Mysteries

A real bargain! I have enjoyed getting to know all the characters. The mysteries are okay but secondary for me. It reminds me a bit of Jessica Fletcher and Cabot Cove. I am from the South, so small town Texas seems familiar. I have downloaded the next set. I have to know if Sylvia moves in with the neighbor and if they rescue the dog at the shelter. :)
