4.5 Stars Action Packed Book A Bargain @$10.08

This is the first time I have listened to an A.J. Tata book. But if you love Flynn, Thor, Silva, Berenson, Coes, you will love "Foreign & Domestic". The book was impossible to put down until I read the Acknowledgments -- Without giving any "spoilers", Jake Mahegan and his Delta Force team are on a special assignment to locate the "American Taliban" in Afghanistan. The mission goes horribly wrong and Jake's best friend is killed and the target escapes. Jake comes back to the U.S. where he is targeted for the unlawful killing of a POW by an ambitious three-star general. Jake is living off of the grid in coastal NC and meets a pretty woman who is a part-time deputy, part time historian and researcher about the areas American Indian and early settler history. Jake is located by the Feds and the book takes off from there. He cannot tell who is friend and who is the enemy. The plot involves stolen highly secret weapon technology, "ghost" prisoners, and civil war gold. I can't recommend this book highly enough. I am looking forward to listening to his other books.

Jonathan Davis was very skilled with the delivery of the story.

Smart/Sophisticated

This is 100 % Mark Greany 'Grey Man' good with adult sophistication in that it's not like several juvenile authors I've suffered in this genre... thank you sir! I like the story, the characters, and the narrator.

Like nails on a chalkboard

I thought this book was close to being done when I realized there was almost 4 hours left to go.

I don't know where to start. I don't want my review to be just as annoying as this book was

Way too many details. Repetitive details at that.

We'll start and finish with the fact that this was way too coincidental of a book. Swimming out and finding a dead body, Then finding ties to the same weapons that killed your friend.??? Come on man.

Sentences that drove me crazy - "Well placed sniper shot" If they were well placed sniper shots - You'd be dead

Chaotic - Unorganized- Etc

Done

Great narration of mediocre novel!

Although I listen to some of them the military sub-genre of mystery/thrillers is far from my favorite because they often sacrifice strong plots for more contrived action. Foreign and Domestic does not have excessive contrived action, but its plot could be stronger. It is a worthwhile mystery/thriller but is not outstanding in any way. except for Jonathan Davis' narration.

Very fast pace story

Who new that one could pack this much action over the course of three days! Jake Mahegan is definitely the guy you want on your side in a fight!
If you like Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum, you will love AJ Tata. He's a fantastic author. I'm on my way to get the sequel...

Ambition Will Get You Killed

If you could sum up Foreign and Domestic in three words, what would they be?

For J.Davis Fans. I am a big fan of Mr. Davis, and buy as much as I can. I am not a Sci Fi fan, so I miss out a lot of his work.
Note: I do use the new 1.25x speed to match the author's intent.
This had a good storyline that keeps your interest as to how all the characters connect.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Our hero, Jake and Lindy as she had spunk.

Which scene was your favorite?

This is a series, and I purchased all 4 books on the 50% sale. This book sets up our hero's character. (it could have had a bit better editing as it was a tad to long) See Wayne's comments, but since I don't get to hear Mr Davis as much as I like, this series is good to show off his range and talent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Actually, this would make a good film as you could see the action in your minds eye.

Any additional comments?

See Sandra Brown's Mean Streak, not to be missed if you like light mystery/ romance.
Let me know if my comments helped you?

Not what I expected

There were a number of surprises throughout the story which kept me wondering what next. There is good character development, flashbacks are done decently, this is a combination of 'who done it' and super hero action. Like most fictional novels of this genre one needs to suspend a bit of reality and allow for coincidences (even though the characters don't believe in coincidences). I enjoyed this listen and recommend this book.

Well Done

Love this story beautifully writen by A J Tata and narrated by Jonathan Davis. The storyi is suspenseful and exciting, action keeping the listener tuned in and rooting for the protagonist, Jake Mahegan. Mahegan 's extremely bright and his plan for revenge against the evil guys is well thought out and executed. He is humble
and exudes confidence in his dealings with the authorities and his cohorts. He's a veteran recently discharged the army, even so he is still combat ready. This is my first A J Tata book. I hope there are more, stories with this hero.
