it is a "page turner" but....

the story is ok. tries to simplify the most complex religious conflict of the 20-21 century to personal issues. but the sorry itself is good

Perfect Assassin

Everything was great about this book. The action moved very fast though the in between story slowed down too much. It was longer than it need be. But the positive items about the characters and the detail explained were very good. I Wil get another number of books from this author as I enjoy his style and attention to detail. I highly recommend this author.

Interesting choice of narrators

The story was captivating, with great characters and intrigue. I wonder at the choice of a female narrator when all but one of the characters were male. McFadden did a good job, and once I got used to her voice I got lost in the story. Honestly, I was surprised that it wasn’t off-putting. Even so, I think a male narrator would have been a better choice.

Oh, the narrator....

This was a struggle for me to finish. I think the story itself was OK, but I really struggled with the narrator. Her British accents, in particular, were just awful. I had a hard time sticking with narrator long enough to make much headway in the book until I finally just told myself that I had to finish the thing to be able to move on.

sorry Amy you maybe a lovely lady but I don't think I can listen to another book with you reading it to me.

Great but....

I enjoyed everything about my introduction to the Slaton series except the narrator. she was poor on accents and terrible on men's voices which outnumbered the women's parts.

A TRUE review!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a fantastic series! And despite the other reviews bashing the female narrator in this first book only, she did a fantastic job as well. Her ability to take on any accent made me stop thinking of her as a female narrator and just listen to the story with its many twists and turns. And even though I do prefer the male narrators in the rest of the series, don’t let that stop you from diving in.

I’ve read them all. Orphan X got me started then I moved on to The Gray Man and kept going from there. Dewey Andreas, Mitch Rapp, Scot Horvath, Victor, Pike Logan, James Reece, and on and on. Let me tell you that David Slaton is up there with the best.

Ward Larsen spins quite the tale and there are so many twists and turns that I’m always surprised at the end. Don’t hesitate because of any bad reviews. This series is worth every penny and I know because I’m on book 5 at the moment.

wrong reader

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Needs a different reader. I don't think it's the readers fault, I'm sure she could do a good job with something like a fantasy or Sci Fi with younger characters.

If you’ve listened to books by Ward Larsen before, how does this one compare?

This is my first, difficult to take it serious and stay focused on the story as the narrator is distracting.

Sure, with the right kind of subject and characters.

Could you see The Perfect Assassin being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Hard to say, I haven't finished listening to it yet. Hate to keep hammering the reader, but I'm having trouble sticking to the story. I have the Assassin's Game by the same author with a different reader. Hopefully he a better fit. If not I'll return both for refunds.

I did enjoy this book, but it left a little to be desired. I think that the idea behind the story is a good one, and the execution was adequate, just nothing special. I was never captivated, and never really bored...just an average listen. I didn't like the narrator for the most part. She did a fine job when narrating the story line, but her voices were a little over the top. She was quite dramatic in her voices, and used very stereotypical characterization.

Definitely not a waste of time, but I probably won't listen again.

Pure entertainment

Before downloading this book, I read the reviews about how unrealistic this story was...well, for me it was exactly the escape I was looking for...and it didn't have the graphic violence and cruelty to animals that so many of the newer suspense books have. I will probably listen to every book in the series. Wonderful!
