Tim Millers Hand of God

Luckily I learned a lot from 'Supernatural' about all this stuff so I could keep up.This is an irreverent, fun, horrifying and sometimes gross story of how poor Charlie i.e. sucked into the world of gods, angels, demons,Nephelim, anything listed in the christian gods world.I enjoyed it a lot, even with always turning it off when my husband walks in!lol Joe Miller is an awesome narrators usual.I was provided this book WAY too long ago by the author, narrator or publisher.Loved it.

For fans of "Dexter"

This is the first book I have listened to by Tim Miller, and it is three stories in one. Part of me really liked it - it reminded me of the TV show, "Dexter," but a very blasphemous version of it. I would like to say that I could totally enjoy this book as the work of fiction that it is, but I have to admit that the takes on God and Jesus bothered me a bit due to my religion (Christian). If you like "Dexter" and can look past the religious overtones, it is a very dark, disturbing, yet exciting read. Basically, a pastor feels that he is the "Hand of God", and does away with bad guys in a gruesome manner. I love the narrator, Joe Hempel (I listened to the Audible version of this book). His character differentiation is great and he really brings to life each character's sarcasm, humor, and attitude. Overall, an exciting and dark read, but definitely not for those who will be offended by the theology presented.

Torn...

Pastor Charlie thinks he is killing the worst sinners at the direction of God. Then an angel appears to him and casts doubt on his 'life's work'. Then the Bishop comes to town and appears to be performing real, live miracles. And Lucifer is dropping in on him and confusing Charlie's religious beliefs. Tim Miller has created a world where all is not right and all that we have been taught about the Holy Trinity is wrong. Charlie must separate fact from fiction and make a decision about who's side he is on...fast.

This listen kept my interest throughout. I was rooting for Charlie and I wanted to see how it ended. I guess I just wanted it to end differently. Tim Miller left nowhere to go...unless somehow Charlie ingested more at the end then it appeared and can rise from the chaos. I am not an always happy ending person but this just left me wanting a better resolution. I feel like Charlie deserved better after all his hard work.

Joe Hempel did a good job with the narration. Most parts were really good and I was in the story, visualizing in my head as he read without giving him a thought. Then there were some stretches where he was obviously reading and this pulled me out of the story. It didn't happen often, but enough so I thought I would mention it.

I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom! in exchange for an honest review.

Very Interesting

This novel was good reading, it's good when you can read all three books in one novel. The narrator was good to listen to.

Dexter but with a preacher!!!

This was so not what I was expecting. I didn't read the blurb of the separate books, only the trilogy one on Goodreads which says "Tim Miller's first ever trilogy with Charlie, the preacher who moonlights as a serial killer is now in one complete volume. Read all three entries in this complete set." It immediately intrigued me with the serial killer preacher, but this is so much more!! I ended up really enjoying this.

Charlie thinks of himself as "The Hand of God". God sends him visions of bad people and tells Charlie to kill them so Charlie does, and he has become proficient in it too. He feels good about doing God's work, but is he really? What happens when a so called Bishop comes and is able to preform miracles? What happens when an Angel comes and tells Charlie that this Bishop isn't who he seems to be and Charlie has to kill him? What happens when Charlie figures out that good and evil isn't black and white?? What happens when the 3 most powerful beings ever are out to get you? Well, you will have to read it to find out.

I'll start off by saying that if you are easily offended and a religious person, then this mightn't be for you. The author has created a unique and dark world revolving around God, Jesus, the Holy Ghost and Lucifer. It was dark, twisted and oh so gripping. I'm not an overly religious person so I took this book as simply an enjoyable fictitious read and not one where the author has a different reasoning behind it. The plot may be religious, as such, but I'd highly recommend it for it's addicting, action packed and entertaining read.

In all, this book grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go. I listened to the audio of this over 2 days and had a hard time unplugging. It is well written and thought out and easily pulls you into the story. I loved all the characters, I loved the plot, I loved the action and how easy it was to dive into this world, well I pretty much loved everything about it and can't wait for more!!

Joe Hempel has such an easy going voice. He is easy to listen to, is clear and concise and has enough different tones for the characters that it was easy to follow. He also knows when to add a little extra tension and when to pull back. I really enjoyed his narration and will definitely check out more by him.

*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*

Religious Horror

I enjoyed this book and many of his other books. Tim Miller writes horror. If you cannot accept listening to this good horror book because of religion don’t. (I’m catholic) You have to remember this is horror fiction and a good listen and has a lot of action and frightening suspense made great by narrator. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast. Thank you!

OMFG!

Wow! Tim Miller has a very creative, sick and twisted imagination! I've heard this is a little mild compared to some of his other work. I'll definitely have to check some of those out! If you are very religious or easily offended, please don't listen and then go on to complain about the book! It's fiction! Excellent fiction! Joe Hempel does an outstanding job with the voices, especially God but I don't want to ruin that one for you! Definitely worth listening to! Everything you learned about God and heaven was wrong!

Excellent story of good vs evil

Wow, what a story. Tim Miller grasps the ideas of good and evil and what they truly mean. The main characters dilemma is epic and weighs heavy on his conscious. He approaches his duties as for the greater good regardless of the victim.

This is the book that made me a lifetime fan of Tim Miller.

The narrator was also excellent. His use of different voices to portray the characters was done with excitement.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a great story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tim Miller's Hand of God Trilogy?

When he learns about his birth parents.

What about Joe Hempel’s performance did you like?

I thoroughly enjoyed his narration. Keeping the different voices he used for the characters straight. Great job!!

Who was the most memorable character of Tim Miller's Hand of God Trilogy and why?

That would have to be Charlie, the main character. He stands out because of his inner dialogue, and his genetic make up.

Any additional comments?
