Publisher's summary

The New York Times bestselling sensation that’s “Steel Magnolias set in Manhattan” (USA Today)

Once a week, an eclectic group of women comes together at a New York City yarn shop to work on their latest projects—and share the stories of their lives…

Walker & Daughter is Georgia Walker’s little yarn shop, tucked into a quiet storefront on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Its Friday night knitting club is improvised by some of Georgia’s regulars, who stroll into the shop looking for tips on knitting and end up finding much, much more. So now, once a week, they gather to work on their latest projects and to chat—and occasionally clash—over their stories of love, life, and everything in between.

However, unexpected changes soon throw these women’s lives into disarray, and the shop’s comfortable world gets shaken up like a snow globe. When the unthinkable happens, they realize that what they’ve created is not just a knitting club—it’s a sisterhood.

confused

I guess I expected this book to have a little more meat to it. I had to force myself to really hang in there, figuring it would pay off in the end. It didn't. It was a depressing end that I could have done without. Although some of the story was enjoyable to listen to, it seemed to drag on and on and on.... I hated the ending and don't understand why the author chose to end it the way she did.

i disagree with others

This is a great book/the narrator did a wonderful job /why do blacks have to sound a certain way.The book was full of surprises.I loved the friendship, the caring of the characters. The story will make you think of your own values and loves.I wish that I had more friends that I shared and interest with.I enjoy crafts, knitting, and had the same feelings as K C.I hope the author can produce more books of the fine caliber. The narrator's voice was excellent and the speed was just right she read at a pace that allowed you to think about the story while listening.I enjoyed this literature and will reread again and again.Thank you Kate Jacobs

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book, though I found some of the characters were a little annoying. It's a nice light book, and I really respected that the author did not end it in a trite predictable way (you'll have to listen to find out what happens)! Some of the characters are really interesting and are dealing with issues that a lot of women face.

Charming story

A delightful story - especially listening to it as an audio book. The narrator is perfect for the story. At times, it seemed that the story will follow along stereotypical lines, but it swerved away from that. Charming.

Strange ending

I really like the book, but was VERY dissappointed that regarding the ending of the book. I was shocked and very annoyed. Annoyed to the point that I am not sure I want to listen to the next book.

I just loved this book/ audiobook!

I was struggling with an expensive skein of yarn I’d purchased on a vacation, I’d started several one skein project, that I ended up frogging until I started listening to this book. Great story line, it took me 3/4 through my project, some chapters were so interesting I’d just go back and listen to them over again! Knitters and especially knitters who gather and knit together will love it❣️

it's just okay

I purchased this book because Julia Roberts is producing this movie and is staring as the main character, Georgia Walker. (in 2008) And I am a big fan of hers...

I wasn't crazy about the narrator. The way she narrated, it make the character's sound old and stuffy. So I didn't quite relate to any of them. Also, the main character, Georgia was 38, but the way the author wrote about her, she sounded much older. Because I am also 38, I felt like she made Georgia sound like a great aunt.

If you are just expecting to find a book to keep you midly entertained then go for it. Because I purchase these books to be used for when I am excercising, I really like these books that are so great, I can't stop listening to it, and therefore, I excerise longer. This just wasn't one of these books.

Heartwarming

This was a very heartwarming story. I could feel the feelings of the chacters. They were together through good times and sad times and still remained friends. I enjoyed everything about this book and can't wait for MS Jacobs next book to come out.

Well written, well performed

What made the experience of listening to The Friday Night Knitting Club the most enjoyable?

I loved this book. It tells the tale of a group of women who come together through their talent (or lack of talent) with knitting. They are likeable women who live real lives.

What about Carrington Macduffie’s performance did you like?

She does such a great job making the distinction from one character to another, and there are a lot of characters! The older woman sounds like an older woman and the young women sound like young women.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I literally laughed out loud. And several times, I was brought to tears.

Any additional comments?

My only regret about this book is the way it ends. But I will probably get the next book(s) in the series, just to find out what happens with the women in the group.
