Critic Reviews

"These unabridged selections...are read by Jason Culp, who swings easily into frontier talk without ever sounding like he's mocking it....Listening, one marvels at how L'Amour can produce so many characters who have the same broad shoulders, slim hips, and justice-loving approach to life, and yet remain believable, engaging, and unique. Culp's narration, for which he creates different voices for the various main characters, helps with this feat, allowing us a taste of the untamed, and sometimes violent, West." (AudioFile)

Great Stories!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! As a Louis L'Amour fan I have read and listen to many of his books. In many of the "collection" of stories I've usually heard at least one of them before, but all the books in this "Collection"were new to me. "Shandy Takes the Hook", "Night at Wagon Camp", "Squatters on the Lonetree" and "To Hang Me High" are thrilling stories of the old west as only Louis L'Amour can tell them.

What other book might you compare The Collected Short Stories of Louis L'Amour to and why?

Other L'Amour short stories and although most of his stories are good (not all); these four books are exceptional.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked "Squatter's on the Lonetree" the best.

If you could rename The Collected Short Stories of Louis L'Amour, what would you call it?

That's what it is, so I could not improve on it.

Any additional comments?

Great stories and a great performance by Jason Culp, the perfect choice for westerns.

L'amour's very best

These stories are so well-written. My husband and I both totally enjoyed them. We've read and listened to most of L'amour's books, and these are pure gold. Darn good narrator too.

The frontier stories

I thought it was great. However, I wish they would have recorded the entire book. there's a lot of great stories that they didn't record.

Vintage L'Amour

It's always fun to read L'Amour's work. He is known to have researched the locations of each of his stories to provide accurate descriptions of the landscape in the story.
