nice collection of short stories

This is a short collection of horror stories that turned out to be pretty good. They all had their own creep factor and were all unique. The narrator did a pretty good job on the narration. As I said, all three stories were unique and interesting. All in all, this was an enjoyable couple hours of listening.

Halloween, Snowballs, Chicken Eggs

Three creepy tales, creepy in that they give you a creepy vibe more so than terrifying you. The first one was my favorite as I thought it was the creepiest and really liked how it ended. I thought it was a neat story and it had me on the edge of my seat. Like many paranormal ghost stories this focuses on a single woman living in a home and the fear that comes when things start to go bump in the night.
The second story was actually a really cool story that I liked up until the last few minutes. The isolation that you feel along with the main character is heavy and the curiosity of what is going on is maddening. The ending totally surprised me and unfortunately it wasn’t a good surprise. I was hoping for maybe something a little simpler as we were given in the first one.
The third story was my second favorite. Other than the whole talking to animals aspect the story was quite simple. I enjoyed that aspect of it and the direction it takes was not at all expected. It did seem quite innocuous until the ending and that is where the story really hit the mark. This was the goriest tale and the most bizarre. I only wish it ended a few sentences earlier or continued on for a few more.
The narrator did a really good job. After listening to the first story I honestly thought that I had heard a female read it. He got me into the character so perfectly that I heard it as if she was reading the story and not him. His voices for the different characters and demons were fantastic. These stories were focused solely on the main protagonist of each respective story and D. Michael Hope did a great job of luring you into that character so that you were in each story and not just listening to it.

Truly original and creative

In a sea of redundant garbage there are very few true storytellers out there. Each one of these short stories gives you just enough set up to see how mysterious the situation is. Then as the story unfolds you are treated to a new and unique concept and left to ponder the possibilities on your own. Lydia Peever is going on my favorite authors list. I hope to see more of her works on audible soon.
Read in the spooky voice of D. Michael Hope who could make a Denny's menu sound horrifying.

Spooky Short Form Horror

'Pray Lied Eve' is a collection of three short stories of the horror/paranormal variety. I throughly enjoyed each one of them and I also have the same complaint about each of them - they ended suddenly and without, at least as far as I could tell, much effort to wrap the stories up satisfyingly. I think it could also be the literal fact that there is no breath/space/bit of air between the end of the stories and the beginning of the next one. For two of them, I wasn't sure it had actually ended! That's a technical mistake but the endings were indeed weak. All of that said, I did enjoy these three tales and they were each uniquely interesting. D. Michael Hope delivers a satisfying narrative performance!

Decent

I would’ve probably like this better if I had read it myself. The narrator rushed through and just ‘read’ the book. I expect a little more from an narrator. It would’ve been just as exciting to hear him read a grocery list.

The stories were decent and seemed well written.

THREE DELIGHTFULLY CREEPY CRAZY TALES....

This is a collection of three short stories, each oozing with creep. Very unique, original stories, really enjoyed em. Narration was good too. If you love a short, unique, creep factor short story, this will do a great job for you! Really interesting, I enjoy the writing and look forward to reading/listening to more from Lydia. Really cool!

Great collection of short horror stories

This is a great collection of short stories of the macabre. All from the mind of author Lydia Peever. The tales are all quite different and the only thing connecting them are their weird nature. My only complaint is that there are not more stories (only 3 in the collection) however what is contained in the book won't disappoint and perhaps it's a case of quality over quanity.

I thought narrator D. Michael Hope read well, did an excellect job of reading in a creepy voice and adding that extra atmosphere to the stories. Excellent book overall.

3.5* - good ideas for creepy stories

If there was an actual 3.5 star rating in this system, I'd give this audiobook that rating. I really liked the ideas behind each of the three stories. I found the first 3/4 of each story very, very compelling. But unlike pretty much all of the other reviews here, I felt somewhat disappointed in the endings of all of them. It's almost like the suspense built and built and built, and then... oh. huh. Since most reviewers gave this audiobook a much higher rating than I did, I chalk this up to my own subjective expectations. The endings didn't punch me in the gut the way I would have wanted, that's all. The narration was good, although I sensed that the narrator was reading the story rather than storytelling the story. Like a tour guide that's guiding the tourists but is somehow apart from them. The narrator switched his style for the final story and I found the exaggerated menace in his voice a bit hard to listen to; however, once I increased the playback speed a bit, it became easier to hear.

Creepy Stories

This audiobook is comprised of three well-written short stories. Each story has a different plot, but all play on the imagination and are surprisingly suspenseful. I can usually predict what is going to happen next in most horror stories-but not these! Because of this, I found them to be incredibly suspenseful and spooky.

The first story is about a woman in an apartment that sees ghosts of people heading to what appears to be a Halloween party. However, their “costumes” actually take living form. So, if their costume includes a severed arm, the ghosts’ arm is actually missing. Each night, their costumes change-as do their bodies. If that weren’t enough, the woman and one of the ghosts are both able to sense each other’s presence!

The second story is about a man who sees snowballs crashing down from the sky, even in the middle of summer. Although it doesn’t happen every day, it happens about the same time of the day, and each snowball lands on the same street in about the same place. The snowballs are getting bigger over time. The man sets out on a quest to figure out what’s going on.

The third story is about a young girl on a farm who is approached by a demon inhabiting a farm animal. The demon asks for the girl’s help. Demons continue to enlist her help over the course of the girl’s life-even when she becomes a woman. The demons always want something awful.

Even though I thought the stories were well-written and suspenseful, I was disappointed by how abruptly each story ended. In fact, with two of the stories, I wasn’t even sure they had ended! The only way I knew one story had ended was because the next story was so different that I knew it had to be a different story!

I thought D. Michael Hope did an excellect job as the narrator. His creepy voices brought the stories alive for me.
