Publisher's summary

Anna Crestwood was raised in the strict beliefs of a religious sect that’s nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. She’s a lesbian with a ton of baggage, fearful, guilty, and alone. Few things would cause her to leave these familiar surroundings, the job offer of a lifetime being one of them. So, against her better judgment, she packs her belongings and moves to the Land of Lincoln, a land without mountains, a land of cornfields and soybeans. This event, traumatic as it was, would have been uneventful had her movers not been told to move a critical stone, a stone that blocked the fiery-breath of Hell, setting a dire chain of events in motion, and beginning the ultimate battle between good and evil.

Gabe Garst is a police officer, a powerful medium, and the daughter of Anna’s new landlord. Her work with juvenile delinquents and ghosts is all that keeps her going. Inside she’s dead, certain that her capacity to love is buried with her late wife, six feet under. Grieving, depressed, and alone, suicide seems like her best option. When she stops by Anna’s to check out an electrical problem, she stumbles across hauntings; encounters a demon, old, dark, and dangerous; and senses the stirrings of mutual attraction.

Unfortunately, both women must battle personal demons before anything can come of it. And, they’ll wait almost too long.

Second book

As I was listening I realized this is the second book to follow Soul Mates but nothing really tells you that in the summary. Emily Beresford is amazing and I just love listening to her bring the stories to life.

Haunted By Ghosts of the Past

Anna Crestwood grew up in the Smoky Mountains in a strict religious sect. As a lesbian she was haunted by feelings of guilt and loneliness. She moves to find a new life and opportunities in a completely different environment. When she has the movers displace a curious stone in the basement a world of demons and evil begin to stalk her. When Gabe Garst, police woman, powerful medium and her landlord’s daughter came over to fix an electrical problem Gabe fnds hauntings and a powerful old demon who wants their souls. With help from the other side and their psychic abilities they struggle to survive and find an opportunity for a future. Wonderful paranormal romance and adventure. Marvelous performance. Recommend.

Not good but in a wierd way.

This story weirded me out in a few ways. for one the emotional development was odd and disjointed. there's no sense of growth or progression it's just like bam over it! bam! love love! bam sexy time! and the phisical development was weirdly awkward. plus they kept forcing Evelyn into every part of the situation sex, intimate conversation, everything which made the awkwardness more aparent. it kinda felt like Anna was not just falling in love with Gabe. it felt more like she was being forced to assume Evelyn's place. Gabe pushed her to wear her cloths and basically told her that Anna was just like Evelyn in almost every way. if I were Anna I'd feel like I was being loved for someone other than myself. it was just strange.

Great ebook, great audiobook

There was a lot here, some of it quite painful for everyone, but worth going through as the reader. It was absolutely interesting and mesmerizing.

My one critique is that the four MCs are named Anna, Jaina, Zane, and Gabe. Really a lot of similarities to keep track of. It helped for me that I was listening to it on Audible, both while reading along with the KU ebook, and just listening.

Ghostly Story

i always enjoy a K.A. Moll reading. I love that many of the characters from her other books are intertwined. It brings a deeper dimension to their lives, as with Zane and Jaina. It makes the stories feel like tales of one big group of family and friends. I love that Gabe and Anna are so accepting of each other.

What a roller coaster adventure

K.A. Moll did an awesome job of pairing a story with the right narrator. Emily Beresford brought the wonderful characters in this ghost/paranormal adventure to life and it was outstanding. Once I started listening I did little else. That being said I rarely venture into anything that could be remotely considered other worldly. I am so glad that I chose to listen to this book. I was amazed and I appreciated Anna and her history. It made me grateful on a purely personal level. I would give this book 10 stars if possible and I rarely feel that strongly about a book. In all honesty I am pretty sure that if I had tried to read this book in any other format I wouldn't have finished it. But, is was just engrossing to the exclusion of my other responsibilities in audio format.

A unique romance

Any additional comments?

This is KA Moll’s fourth romantic novel and a departure from her usual storytelling. It’s at once tender and terrifying as southern belle, Anna, finds strange things afoot in her Illinois apartment. She soon meets psychic Gabe, who comes to perform maintenance on the place only to find the building haunted and the occupant haunting her every thought.

Moll’s characters are complex and damaged and a defining aspect of her writing is that she grounds them in reality. Like all good romances, love conquers all, but it is refreshing to see that Moll makes sure love doesn’t do it alone. She uses love to drive her characters to seek the professional help they need, lean on friends, and begin the difficult personal journey they must take to reconcile their past.

Romantically, Moll teases to the point of torture. By the time Anna and Gabe consummate their love, we’re aching for it almost as much as they are. Until then, the plot weaves through a tapestry of personal stories that move the plot forward while providing a rich history for these modern day characters.

Haunted Love is narrated by Emily Beresford who has narrated over a hundred audiobooks and offers a soft, sweet voice that is beautifully suited to Moll’s style of writing. Her diction is sharp and she avoids overplaying the few sex scenes. Her characterisations are not always distinct, but when she adopts a southern drawl or vocal quirk, she’s consistent. Even so, Moll’s writing lets us know who is speaking or acting at any given time.

Great read

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, even though I'm not really into paranormal books. I live near Champaign, where this book takes place, so that was a fun surprise.

Gabe is a widow, still grieving her late wife. Anna is a woman dealing with a lot of religious baggage and insecurities. Their story is sweet and will make you smile and cheer them on.
