Good Story. Okay narration.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to a friend, as I would with all BJ novels. However, I would suggest that you read the book before listening to the audio book. I think you could get the wrong impression of how great a writer Ms BJ is if you only listen to this performance.

What didn’t you like about Shari Peele’s performance?

I usually love Shari Peele's narrations. In fact, I was excited to see that she was narrating this story. However, this was not one of her best performances. The meter was off, and it was very slow. It felt like it was dragging. Also her voices sounded pretty similar, especially the male characters. Her accents were also off. I have heard her do a really good Spanish inflected English accent in other audio books, but in this one it was just off at times. I love her narration of modern stories, but I didn't really care for her performance of this historical romance.

EXCELLENT STORYTELLING

I've been a fan of Beverly Jenkins for a long time. I love that her books have became audio books where now I can just listen to them. Destiny's Embrace is very good and the narration is great too.

Beverly Jenkins Rocks

I am new to Beverly's books but I love her novels. Her writing is prolific and refreshing. Her characters are so real. Another great body of work!

Great Book, but needs a new reader!

I love this story, but Kim Staunton or Thomas Penny should have read this story. This reader I feel was not good with accents and sometimes used the accents for the wrong characters. She didn't sound confident and prepared.

I could not turn this off.

I laughed, I frowned, I sat on the edges of my seat. I learned new information and was totally pleased with this story. Can't wait till five into the next book.

Shari Peele, AGAIN?!?!?!

Here we go with this awful narrator AGAIN!!! She sounds like she has a mouth full of spit. I couldn't even get through the first chapter. She must be doing this shit for free! Damn!!!

Good story, terrible narration.

this was my first Beverly Jenkins book and I enjoyed the story's plot, flow and tone. I hated the narration, as the narrator repeatedly swallowed, made unnecessary and awkward pauses, and missed the tone of the dialogue. I've listened to books by other authors she has performed for, and had a similar experience.

Wonderful! I couldn't stop listening and laughing!

The reader was clear and although monotone a bit, she managed to keep my attention. I felt as if I was in the story itself. Very good..
