Publisher's Summary

A traitorous heart....

Cara Lee Henson knows no soldier can be trusted to stay in one place - and that includes handsome Sergeant Chase Jefferson of the Tenth Cavalry. Dallying with the dashing man in blue could cost the pretty, independent Kansas schoolteacher her job and her reputation. So Cara is determined to repel Chase’s advances - even though her aloof facade barely masks her smoldering desire.

A blazing passion....

Never before has Chase longed for a woman the way he ached for lovely Cara Lee. The strong-willed ebony beauty, however, will not surrender easily. But with tender words and soulful caresses, Chase intends to conquer the reluctant schoolmarm’s misgivings - and teach her how to love fully, sensuously...and forever.

It was about the same

This was pretty much the same as her other books. Same story. Same ending. I have loved her as an author but her application of the exact same formula is starting to feel insulting. That said, it’s a romance novel so it was something to listen to passively. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It was okay

I love Beverly’s books. But this one kind of let me down. It was a very slow book.

A loving story of love

I'm sure this story would be a good movie. Nicodemus Kansas mentioned in this story is a historical site that became a
all black township 1877.
Thank you, Beverly Jenkins for adding our historical sites and history to your Stories.

Wonderful

I’ve wanted to read something by Jenkins for a long time, and finally took the opportunity. It did not disappoint. In addition to a sweet, naturally unfolding love story, it includes historical reality in a natural way, giving me a glimpse into a world I never knew existed while developing believable, well-rounded characters. I’ll be happy to read more of this author’s work any time.

Lovingly, always

The story tells how the “age old” tales of true love blossoms between a man and a woman. Personally speaking, the sexual encounters were a bit too lengthy and excessive. The narration was great. I wished the demise of the villains would have been different and allowed them to see and feel the same terror their victims experienced.
