Night Hawk’s Voice

This is a great story; however, the narrator’s voice for Maggie was awful! Honestly, all the character’s voices were bad save Ian Vance and Jade. The deep whisper of Ian Vance is what held my interest in the rest of the story. If Ian didn’t sound so damn fine, I don’t think I could have gotten through this audio book. Maggie’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Overall, I enjoyed the story but I won’t get another romance audio narrated by Mr. Free.

Great read

Any additional comments?

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Not predictable. Strong characters and ensemble cast. While I am not necessarily a western reader, I loved this story and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good book. The narration was superb.

Which character – as performed by Kevin R. Free – was your favorite?

Very Good, but NOT The Revolutionary War Era

What made the experience of listening to Night Hawk the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the story overall and liked the heroine very much - it gave very good information about the West and details about the plight of Natives and Blacks during the time period after Reconstruction (better than the South).

What was one of the most memorable moments of Night Hawk?

The heroine's escape from the Preacher! :)

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The performance could have been better - I didn't care for Ian's voice and some of the minor characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Life Beyond the Pain.

Any additional comments?

I think I would have enjoyed it more with a different narrator.

Excellent

Would you consider the audio edition of Night Hawk to be better than the print version?

This is first I have heard of this book, however I enjoy the authors work so much.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Preacher of course!

What does Kevin R. Free bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was the worst narrator I have ever heard. The book would have been much better with different narrator, he made the women all sound the same.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

indifference

Great Western

Beautiful tidbits of Black and Indian and Black Indian history in late 1800s at the end of the Old West era. One review struck me as a bit racist when s/he mentioned it being the story of an interracial relationship. History is history, love is love and there’s no racial exclusivity of real love. The biracial heritage of both protagonists enhances the story, rather than detracts from it!
This novel would make a great movie, and we don’t get many western movies in today’s film creations. It also would be a great addition to high school reading lists.

Interesting story

Night Hawk was a very well rounded and complete story. I really liked Preacher. He was in The Taming of Jessie Rose, and I had no idea that he had his own story. It was a pleasant surprise. Maggie was an okay heroine, though far from being one of my favorites. I think my subtle dislike for her has a lot to do with the narration.

The narrator, Kevin Free, was horrible with the female voices. They all, especially Maggie, sounded like a man trying to sound like a woman, which was creepy. The voices were jarring and continually pulled me out of the story. The whispered voice of Preacher was much better, though I kept expecting to hear him say, “I’m Batman,” in that Michael Keaton way. Other than Preacher, the narrator did not do a good job at varying the voices. At times I wasn’t sure who was speaking.

That being said, I enjoyed the book overall.

Disappointed

Voices of the main characters was awful. Sounded like Clint Eastwood and mean aunti. Story was wonderful. Recording cut in and out for last four hours. Very disappointing
