"Henderson's romantic suspense is a satisfying read. She's tweaked the story line just enough to keep the tension taut and the romance springy." (Romantic Times Magazine)

Excellent story, great narrator.

This was a great story as are all of Dee Henderson's books. It's a great blend of mystery, suspense and romance. Tom Stechschulte is a wonderful narrator and very easy to listen to. With all of Dee Henderson's books, she has proved that you can write a really good book without filling it with sex and profanity. Thank you Dee Henderson.

Excellent one of her best

I understand that there were some negative reviews about this book, and it took me a while to purchase it because of those them, however I really enjoyed this book. In fact I believe that Danger in the Shadows is one of Dee Henderson's best works. I started with The Negotiator and I found it very interesting to get more background on Dave and family prior to Kate. This is a well written book with a believable story line. If you like Dee Henderson then you will not be disappointed with this book.

Danger in the Shadows (unabridged)

If you have listened to the abridged version, whether you liked it or not, I urge you to listen to the complete version. There is definitely a reason why this book has earned so many awards. It is incredible, very suspenseful. You will find yourself driving around and around the block because you just don't want to stop listening. Dee has the ability to develop full characters, who question their faith -- asking those things we have all asked and yet rarely are willing to allow people to see or know about us. If you are not a person of faith, or find those of us who are challenging to understand, this book, while being extremely entertaining, will give you a glimpse. Plus, Dee just knows how to tell a great believable story. Having read all of her books -- I await each one and purchase it the minute it comes off the press -- I was thrilled to see it had been made into an audible book. The abridged version was extremely disappointing. I am purchasing this one; I know it will be worth listening to again and again.

Excellent

This book is one both my husband and I enjoyed. It is well-written and held our attention throughout. In fact, we listened to it at every opportunity. It's one that anyone who appreciates good Christian suspense will enjoy.

Great Story, but not what I was expecting.

If you could sum up Danger in the Shadows in three words, what would they be?

Intense, Sad and Serious

What other book might you compare Danger in the Shadows to and why?

This book reminds me of Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson. Yes, I'm fully aware that I can expect similarities, but the main characters in these novels were so close. Both suffer from nightmares, both are afraid to get married and have children. This makes me hesitant to listen to the O'Malley's series. I going to listen to book 1, if it's more of the same that will be the last of this series for me.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator had a great voice. Overall, his performance was good, however he didn't do Sara the main character any justice. Tom didn't transition into the female characters very well, but he tried and you could hear the difference when Sara was speaking.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This novel was good, however it was a bit SAD. It didn't make me laugh or cry. I just found myself saying "WOW" often.

Any additional comments?

I ordered this book based on the novel Full Disclosure. The author advertised her other books in Full Disclosure. Full Disclosure painted a different story of Sara and Adam. So, I was expecting the story of Sara and Adam described in Full Disclosure. Danger in the Shadows was good, but not the story I expected.

I REALLY wanted to like it.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was a bit draining listening to this book. I enjoyed the following series by Dee Henderson a lot more than this one. Yes, it gave me a bit of an insight into a couple of the characters in The Negotiator, but other than that, I kind of wish I hadn't read it. However, I'm glad I didn't read it first, or else I might not have continued listening to the O'Malley Series... which was really good.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The mystery was very interesting, with the stalker, the kidnapping, the danger. However, there was so little danger through the entire story that it just dragged on and on and on. The romance was great, but it took over the whole story and the mystery, which was the most interesting part, took a beating. It needed to be more in the forefront. Yes, Sarah was really really scared and scarred from her experiences, but it seems like the reader is just beaten over the head with it.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Accents. I had issues with this with the rest of the O'Malley Series as well. He's a good narrator, but he just didn't do British accents... at all. It was awkward when the character spoke, clearly a normal american accent, and another character would comment on the British accent. It was like, what accent!? What did I miss!? It's one I wish I could have read, because I could have at least imagined it correctly.

Did Danger in the Shadows inspire you to do anything?

Not really, though it should have.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book, I'm not sorry I read it, but it just dragged. PLEASE don't let this deter you from reading her other books in the O'Malley Series. This one was just a bit disjointed.

should she or shouldn't she???

I was so disappointed - I love Dee Henderson's stories... but this was just so dragged out! The parts about the events in Sarah's past and the current episodes of intrigue in her life were good, but the CONSTANT ruminating (should he talk to her, should he call her, should she see him, should she talk to him, she shouldn't have seen him, he had done the right thing, she had done the wrong thing... BLAH BLAH BLAH!) It went on and on! What was Dee thinking? The characters became totally BORING because they just sat around wondering what to do and why to do it...

Loved It!

Where does Danger in the Shadows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of the best audiobooks I have listened to.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narrator is good, but the women's voices come across a little whiney.

Any additional comments?

This book made me want to get my hands on the rest of the series!

Simplistic Romance

I haven't read a book like this since I was 13 and outgrew romances. The main character is weak. She behaves like and is treated like a child by both her brother and her new love interest. I listened to the entire book while paiting the trim on my house with my husband. (He was listening the the much more enjoyable 'Other Side of the Story')Every fifteen minutes or so I would scoff and he would remove his headphones so I could share one absurd line or another. If you like simplistic romances, this book is for you. Just not my cup of tea. Although we did have quite a few laughs over it.
