Publisher's Summary

The ashes have fallen and the dust clears to a startling discovery....

Beyond the reach of the nuclear infernos, the masterminds survived and continue their assault on outposts across the Allied States. Timothy Temper and Sergeant Ruckley narrowly escaped one of those attacks. On the run from hostile forces, they fight to get an urgent message to command - the monsters aren’t the only threat. Their human allies have a nuclear weapon.

Refusing to hide underground, President Jan Ringgold heads to New York. Doctor Kate Lovato and her team are there working to infiltrate and sabotage enemy communications. To buy them time, S.M. Fischer and his engineers deploy technology to detect incoming Variant attacks. But they can’t hold the monsters for much longer.

Deep in enemy territory, Master Sergeant Fitzpatrick and Captain Beckham discover the terrifying truth behind the New Gods and a plan even more nefarious than eliminating the human race. This time, the future depends not just on the survival of Team Ghost, but their ability to convince new allies to join the fight before it’s too late.

Phenomenal book!!

I really and truly don't know what to say about this book that will do it justice!! When I first started the Extinction Cycle books, I never expected to love them as much as I did, and when the author said that there would be more in the series I thought he wouldn't be able to surpass the first ones, but I was wrong. This series is just as amazing!!!

Extinction Ashes sees everyone trying to find answers as to what is happening with the variants, the webbing and the collaborators. Fitz and Team Ghost are struggling to survive whilst being cut off from command. Kate is trying to get answers as to what the webbing is and what is happening the Variants. Beckham is just trying to keep Kate and everyone safe when things are getting worse. It is honestly one of the most intense books I've read in a long while!!! The plot goes from one thing to another and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Once again these authors shine with the way they can write their characters. Kate, Beckham, Horn and Fitz have become my favourites. But I've also become attached to Fischer. He has quickly become a favourite too. This book had my heart in my mouth multiple times because the characters are put through the wringer. Every character grows and evolves throughout the story and it makes the whole book phenomenal. You can't help but become involved in their lives, you can't help but hurt when they hurt and feel every emotion along with them. This for me is what makes the book, and indeed the whole series, one of the best out there!!

There is a lot I want to say about the book, certain parts and certain characters, but it would spoil so much, so all I'll say is if you want a book that will knock your socks off, then this is the one. It's action packed, thrilling, breath taking, gripping and an absolute phenomenal read. I can't wait for the next one to see what happens!!!

R.C Bray is amazing as always. He has such an astonishing array of tones and voices for the characters and his inflections bring the world to life.

More!

Extinction Ashes. By Nicholas Sansbury Smith &Anthony J Melchiorri
Story *****
Narration *****

Another homerun by Smith. I loved this book. This one hands down is my favorite Extinction Dark Ages novel. The existing characters are still awesome; the newer characters have developed into complex and awesome people.
The monsters are even more monstrous.... I thought Smith couldn't make these creatures any scarier but with the help of AJM he has done it. If you like any Zombie, TEOTWAWKI military, biological warfare books - this is for you. If you like any of Nicholas Sansbury Smith's or Anthony J. Melchiorri books again, this series is for you. I cannot wait for the conclusion to this series. I love how RC Bray brought all of the characters to life! Easily one of my favorites!

Must read!

Extinction Cycle, any part of it, is a must read. From beginning to current end it’s an adventure and horror story you struggle to put down. Nicholas Smith writes characters that are real and flawed perfectly causing them to be someone you either love or hate. The current season this book is part of has been filled with twist and turns and characters that you think you are gonna love/hate only to find out they aren’t what you may have initially thought. I love that. The story is one you have to read to really enjoy the nuances of. I thought I knew what I was walking into when I picked the book up only to find the world I thought I knew completely still had hidden parts I needed to discover. If you’ve read the rest of this series you have to read this part, if you haven’t, start at the beginning and enjoy all the hours of an amazing journey that will have you re-reading it over and over.

And another one!

OMG, once again Nickolas Sansbury Smith kills it! This story takes you to some dark places. I personally haven't felt the series went to since the first few books in Extension Cycle when all hope felt lost. If by some chance you read this comment and have not listened to any of his work, please stop what you're doing and by the first book in any of his series. You are welcome my friends. Great addition to this horrifying universe Eagerly awaiting the next installment!

An Amazing Series Continues!

The latest book in the Extinction Series continues to deliver a powerful and action-packed ten hours of suspense.  It is truly up to Timothy, Fitz, Team Ghost, Kate, Beckham, and Horn to defeat the “new gods” and crack the purpose of the variant webbing.    There is not a moment in which anyone is at peace, it is a consuming war in which trust is valuable and not easily given but life can be snuffed out in an instant.  So many different pieces to the story are moving at once but the authors, Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony J. Melchiorri keep everything flowing and consistent.

I would have to echo what many others have said about this series; the characters are so well developed that they are like one of the family.  As a listener one cannot help but groan out loud when Timothy, Fitz, Beckham or Horn are caught between a rock and a hard place.  Smith and Melchiorri have a talent for connecting the listeners to the characters in the book – there are some you can’t help but love and others … you hope Karma comes around in the form of a variant or bullet and takes care of the right ones!

This was an intense book, it took me several days to get through it only because I was so involved in the book.   I would find myself experiencing a wide range of emotions – relief, anger, fear, OMG moments and then the strong feelings of patriotism, dedication, and duty.  Those real feelings that not many of us experience throughout lives now except vicariously through books and movies but they are accurate feelings that I have seen throughout my family members who have served in Korea, Vietnam, WWII and more.  Smith and Melchiorri are very perceptive and talented storytellers to be able to invoke those feelings with words along.  Their words reveal the passion and dedication very strongly.

RC Bray, as a narrator, is the best!  His ability to speak in different tones and inflections helps move the book along as well as cement that connection to the characters for the listener.  His distinctive voices are strong and well-executed.  I cannot imagine listening to the Extinction Series without him present – he has become the voice of the characters!

There were no issues with the production quality of this book.

Continued excellence!!

Reading the Extinction series with my father has been a joy, not only for him, but yes as a female, me too.

I would never in my wildest dreams have thought that I would fall head over heals for apocalyptic military fiction, but the authors, both Nicholas and Anthony, have brought such realism to their stories.
It’s truly frightening knowing how, in reality, how fragile our nation is to the unknown.

Most of what I’m saying is also coming from my father who cannot see well enough to write for himself, but he has given me a free reign in expressing his and my feelings and emotions about these Extinction Cycle stories.

I’ve been with my father throughout every one and Ashes just, well, it was terrible for our characters whom have become like family through these fantastic authors imaginations. It shows the true horror of war and the suffering of the innocents.

Even though Ashes and every other Extinction Cycle stories are fictitious, I can see where instead of imaginary monsters, there are actually real human monsters that could pose a real threat. They already have as we all know and we would be blind to think it’s over. Our government has a tremendous job to do, to say the least.

Ashes was by far not the end of this fiction. It’s plain to see that we’ll all get to read more of Extinction Cycle and I for one am overjoyed.
The next book has already been preordered.

Unfortunately, my father is gravely ill and currently in the hands of medical professionals.
I can only hope he eventually gets to come home to enjoy more of these awesome creations by Nicholas and Anthony.

I’m don’t want to stop without giving credit to R.C. Bray for his excellent narration as well.
He was instrumental in bringing every aspect of this unbelievably fantastic story to life.
He’s absolutely one of the very best narrators today and that’s a very short list.

Thank you so much for this continued five star+ creation you’ve given us all.
Bless you for giving him some relief through the very best of distraction with your efforts.

Sincerely,
Alan (& Brittany, his daughter, composer and narrator.

Another nail biter!

As usual I had difficulty stopping and listened more than I should, given my intent to ration this book so as to not go through too quickly. Kate and her husband, along with Team Ghost, continue to try and infiltrate the Masterminds communication network while Team Ghost and a rag tag team of survivors make a desperate assault on an enemy stronghold in a bid to save what is left of the Allied States. Old friends are reunited, there are victories but also painful losses. The end of the book is bittersweet and I eagerly await Book 4.

More 5 star reading

Another excellent addition to the Extinction Cycle series. Their is always the risk with extended story telling that the books become stale and repetitive but the authors continue to avoid this and once again are taking us down new roads with our favourite characters. Action packed as ever the new twists in the variants story opens up a whole new realm of possibilities in the fight against the New Gods and the survival of the Human Race.
