Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
Darkness descends over the survivors of the Extinction Cycle....
With nowhere left to run, the Allied States fortifies their few remaining outposts and relocates Central Command to prepare for their final stand. President Jan Ringgold and her generals know beating the enemy on the battlefield is impossible. The only path to victory seems to be taking down the leader of the New Gods, a sinister Chimera known as the Prophet, before he can complete his campaign to enslave humanity.
While Captain Reed Beckham trains new troops, his wife Doctor Kate Lovato returns to the tunnels to infiltrate the bioengineered enemy communication network. Injured and exhausted, Master Sergeant Fitzpatrick and Team Ghost make their way back from Canada with a Chimera prisoner that might be the key to finding the Prophet and raising a new army.
In this thrilling conclusion to the Extinction Cycle series, humanity bands together one last time against the Variants. But time has run out for the heroes of the first war to save what remains of the Allied States and, perhaps, the world.

Totally Shocking Conclusion and Excellent Finish!
Extinction Darkness (The Extinction Cycle: Dark Age Book 4) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony Melchiorri is AMAZING! Beckham, Horn, Kate and Team Ghost have fought for freedom from the monsters – both human and non-human and everything in between! The Prophet and his Scions are just one step away from annihilating the entire race of humans. That step seems to be mighty large … he must first beat Beckham, Horn, and Team Ghost. Bent on revenge, the Prophet wreaks havoc. Death comes to several characters in this last book, but they die with honor and dignity fighting for what they believe in. Will it be enough? I won’t spoil the story, but I will tell you, that I just finished the book not 15 minutes ago and I felt compelled to write this review while tears stream down my face!
As co-writers of this story, it is impossible for me to tell differences in the writing styles, they are blended so completely that the story is seamless. The characters (beloved ones and hated ones alike) are so well developed that the mention of their names will create a reaction.
The story is solidly written with nothing left to question except what comes next after all the carnage and death and … plot twists are excellently executed. The deaths are dealt with well and the new characters added to the story are impressive and the same care and attention to detail are present.
I will say that there were several times I sat in shock, not believing what I had just heard … and disliking both authors to a small degree. Their skill in storytelling is vivid and engaging. Listeners cannot help but be sucked into the story and react to the words and images they create. While I am sorry to see the series end, it finishes with a solid ending, no questions.
To Nicholas and Anthony … well done!
R.C. Bray, narrator, as always does a fantastic job narrating/performing the story. His performance just added to the emotional reactions that each listener will feel as they hear the book. He brings the book to life! Well done R.C.!

Great Ending!
I hated to see this awesome series end, but it was an excellent ending! Beckham, Horn, Kate and Team Ghost have fought like hell to rid the world of these variants and save the human race. They've fought a hard fight that continues to get harder as the story progresses. This time they have to face the Prophet, the leader of the New Gods.
Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony J. Melchiorri did an outstanding job co-writing this incredible series! I hope this won't be the last time they work together! They certainly make a great team! With those two writing and R.C. Bray narrating, it's going to be great every time!
There are several other side stories related to this series by other authors. I loved this series so much that I definitely plan to check them out. And I can't wait to see what Nicholas Smith has in the works. I have enjoyed each and every book he's written and will continue to enjoy anything he writes!

Exceptional!!
I don't know what to say to do this book (and indeed the series) justice. I didn't want it to end but knew it had to. I've found it hard in the last few years to find a series that could capture my attention fully....until I started reading these.
This book has everything I've come to expect from both these authors. Action, edge of your seat suspense, strong characters and a story that will grab you and not let go. Once I started reading i couldn't stop. It was exceptional.
I'll update the review when I've thought a bit on how to fully express my thoughts!!! Take my word for it though, go read this series if you haven't already.
R.C Bray is an amazing narrator. He doesn't just read a book, he performs it and makes it come alive. Every character has their own tone and he knows how to read with emotion behind them.

Unrelenting 5 star tension!
Honestly, I am already missing Extinction Cycle and its well-developed characters and story lines. This last book is a palm-sweating suspense that is crammed full of action, sacrifice, heartbreaking loss and prodigiously difficult decisions. The collaboration between the two authors elevates the story to the next level, especially when it comes to the supporting medical science and RC Bray’s narration is fabulous as always.

Amazon ending to a great series!
This is the epic conclusion the the Extinction Cycle series. I have to say I hope that at some point we have yet another conclusion as I would love more of this story and to see where they all go next. As is this is a great ending though. Lots of action and tense moments. There is sadness and joy. There is an ending that satisfies, but still leaves plenty of world to explore. I love this series enough that I have re-read it more than once and my 13 year old son agrees with me. If you haven’t read this series you could start here, but I would highly recommend you start at the top. So much will mean more if you do and it’s definitely well worth it, this story is one that will stick with you.

Ok but not as good as the rest of the books in the series
This book is ok but does seem as though it was a little rushed to get another out. Although the story is OK it is not as action packed as other books. One really annoying thing is the amount of times the words he said - she said was used and it got a little monotonous.
