Publisher's summary

Ben has set his sights to the north, where a tower reaches to the heavens.

But first, he will need to gain the favor of a master deep within the dungeons outside his own tower.

With this new master’s training and his new children, Ben is ready to venture north and claim what is rightfully his.

Inevitably, things prove more difficult than he could have ever imagined, and The One Who Rules All could be Ben’s undoing.

Every next book gets worse than the previous

it's quite impressive how the quality of writing and storybuilding degrades in this series with every next book. Not that the level of the first book was too high, though. Still, it's a bit upsetting as the original permise is quite entertaining. Don't think I'll be waiting for the fourth book.

disappointed

several plot holes exist in this book I'm a bit confused with. the timelines of Ben and the one leaves me a bit confused on implications. The ending is another: How did the goblins know the hawk was ben when it is stated humans are not known to be able to transform? and wth is with Ben's idiocricy of power grabbing with wizards? lock up wizards and drain them asap, in combat with one without a shield, take their intelligence and turn them in to a drooling baby then take their spells. he wants more spells from wizards but he has the habit of just killing the wizards.
