Publisher's summary

After fighting a troll in a back alley, I found out the supernatural was real.

Then I discovered I'm a dragon shifter.

Soon after, I learned I'm also a mage.

Turns out this combination is incredibly rare, and now everyone wants a piece of me.

Being a dragon, there's only one thing I want to do: gather my hoard.

Power. Magic. Women. Riches. It's all going to be mine.

Great story

I have read a lot of dragons stories so far and each of them has something unique give it to them take the dragons justice, for example, heavy unique or American dragon eat to get your blood pumping this one it’s not on the level, but it is very close and it is really good for starting book series

what happened to Mama!?!?

I'm a recent fan to the Dante King series. I have appreciated two of his previous works such as making supers and stardust runners. overall I kind of enjoy the tempo and the story. I admit that the voice actors brought more life to the book making supers then reading the book. I only read book one and the rest I got an audible. with that being said I think this was a great story. I wouldn't put it up there with Stephen King or Michael Scott Earl but definitely beyond Sean Williams and Stephen colve.
this was a fun story. this is also a guilty pleasure book for me. however... One of the things that bothered me is this book tries to capitalize on the I'm a son who has to make sure his mother is taking care of or safe. she seems to be pitiful in the first five chapters of the book and then she completely disappears... and is only addressed as in I need to make my mom proud... why? it's your typical hey I've discovered I'm not just a regular everyday average Joe I actually have some special abilities about me and there's a bunch of cool ass super strong women that are going to help me achieve all my dreams, goals, and bear the children of my kingdom! but what happened to Mama. Mama supposed to be all this importance! Mama's sick and needs help! and then Mama disappears... what the hell. overall I think this is a good book. it's probably one I would wait for on sale though. I wouldn't purchase it at full price.
if you're getting the audible both voice actors do an extraordinary job. I believe that you be very entertained. for that I don't know if I do full price but if I ended up with a free extra credit then I would probably use it on this.

A good start to the series

Interesting start, well thought out if not a little basic development of MC’s storyline. Likable Harm, and as always with this Crew great performance.

Recommend for fantasy and harem fans.

Dante King doesn't disappoint. Dragons and a submissive harem, what else could I ask for?

Promising setting that derails

As the series progresses from book to book it derails or deviates from interesting or established ideas. Originally we get the Dragon, a being who is supposed to be King or Ruler of everything. Except, he is extremely weak for a dragon.

Okay, so he has mage powers too, gets like 3 or 4 spells, rarely uses spells in favor of his dragon powers except when the enemy uses anti mage weapons then he is all about those mage powers. His favorite spell is the swarm spell except it's not at some point.

So, he and his girls hunt invading supernatural creatures until the author drops that aspect after a book or two. Ya, a lot of cool filler dropped for whining, anger, and stupidity dialogue.

Then we find out he is also a vampire, I mean nightlord...nope, nevermind. Apparently vampire is the correct term even though it's established that it's not until the series contradicts itself. Apparently, this power is OP compared to being a dragon or mage.

The series can't get it's lore down and consistency. First two books were decent but 3 and barely into 4 just come across as boring with a spice of adult scenes.

Better Than I Feared...But Even So...

It's mostly your pretty typical "magic has always been just around the corner" kind of Urban Fantasy...just with more women. At least that's how it starts.

The main character is a-DORK-able (for most of the book anyway) and that's not a bad thing - I found it kinda funny after hearing stories with other, more "badass" MC's. It just feels more organic to react and think the way he does. I don't know if it was the male narrator (though both were good of course) or the writing, but I liked it.

Towards the middle of the book I noticed a few small plot hiccups here and there that I think the editor really should've taken out or told the author about. It wasn't so bad at first but overtime it became more glaring. Not quite to the extent that it totally broke the story, but there were moments where I was taken out of immersion and was like "wait...but didn't you just say..." only for the whole thing to be glossed over and the story went on.

Also, the sexy bits. I like that they held off until at least halfway through the book before the first sex scene happened, but after that it seemed like the flood gates on the woman's sex drives were crazy open. One of them was crazy horny almost all the time, which I didn't mind at first but it eventually started to shift the story a bit....or so it felt like. And some of the dirty talking was cringe inducing. Not the narrators fault of course, they're just reading it.

Despite that stuff...it was still admittedly a fun listen - you just really gotta make sure your brain is off for parts of it.

I might get the next book, not sure yet.
