I thought the last thing I would have expected while working at the mall during the holiday season was to meet a real elf woman. Then the blue-skinned ogre tore through the mall. The elf and I made a quick escape and ended up in a strange fantasy world.

Now, I’m finding out that the elves have been in decline for centuries and are being hunted to extinction for their magical abilities.

They need someone to help them. Someone to protect them. Someone with magical powers that could make elves strong like they used to be.

Apparently, I’m that someone. And there are a whole lot of elf species who could use my protection.

good story

Overall the story was good. I liked the development of the story and the side quests he get roped into. The females are introduced linearly. The female characters didn’t all get a lot of screen time. Once they gave the MC their magic ability, they didn’t have a lot of screen time nor real development of the relationship except maybe a couple of them and even they were weak. They also didn’t work with him on the magic like I would have liked to see. He really had to discover the different aspects by himself which made him weaker. Some of the magic users did work with him but not all. He stayed with two of the girls and not the rest. The tie to the girls wasn’t strong. He got magic from the girls then the relationship seemed weak after that. The MC was super preachy with the denigrating of his own planet earth and its people. He seems to forget that his own people were much more advanced although he doesn’t seem to appreciate that. Although he did steal ideas from them. Overall, I liked the diverse elf populations. He kept talking about how much better their society was compared to earths yet the different elves had to be shown that they needed to work together so all wasn’t roses with the elves and they had to be brought together, some by force. He talks about the positive nature of his relationship with the elves but he does hide things from them. They do end on a cliffhanger since books 4 and 5 are out. I am still up in the air on reading the rest of the books. The preachiness was hard for me to get past.

Interesting way to gain magic but relationships need work

The banter makes me want to jam spikes in my ear drums, it’s not clever and the use of “he said she said” every time someone opens their mouth is a tad irritating. The concept is great however calling elves “creative” and then not having them fortify their own home is just unbelievable nor is it flattering, on top of that there are times where people know he’s human then don’t the next second it’s a massive plot hole

Banter is cringe

I really enjoyed this series, great characters and powers. I like the element power balance and the many different types of magic

Great story

It's like the author was a high school student, short on word count and said "Hey, AI? Go through this book and ad as many unnecessary adjectives to my script. Oh, and make as many obnoxiously high-brow as possible"

Narrator was great though

Vocabulary takes you out of the immersion
