Publisher's Summary
The Witcher meets the The Dresden Files in this Weird Western tale by the Audible number one best-selling duo, performed by Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan).
James Crowley met his mortal end in a hail of gunfire. Now, he finds himself in purgatory, serving the White Throne to avoid falling to hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his servitude and fade away.
His not-so-sacred duty as a Hand of God? Use his new abilities to hunt down demonic beings that have infiltrated the mortal realm.
This time, the White Throne has sent him to the middle of nowhere: a Western town called Dead Acre with a saloon, a moldy church, and little else worth talking about. There isn’t even a sheriff. But the local cobbler has gone missing at the same time as a number of graves were desecrated.
Crowley must follow the clues, all while dealing with a cutthroat gang that treats Dead Acre like they own it, an extraordinary woman who makes it hard to focus, and locals not keen on strangers.
Life isn’t simple for a Hand of God.

Oh that voice...
The voice of Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 is back and absolutely nails this performance! I’ve always thought westerns were something everyone loves but doesn’t realize it. This one has fantasy elements making it a Weird Western but the classic “western voice” is solid.

Short, sweet Weird Western done right.
This was just almost long enough. The voice was so perfect it's like I recognize it from somewhere else. I couldn't stop listening. I can hardly wait to listen again. Hey Mr. Authors, please put this into a novella or graphic novel format? I grew up reading the DC Weird Western comics and this has Jonah Hex beaten by a mile! I see a lot of homage to the greats and I love the MC. I am generally a SyFy/Fantasy/military SyFy fan. This knocked my socks off.
Get this asap. Besides, right now it F R E E for Plus members . I will be buying this with a credit next month because I want to make sure I keep access to it.
I can easily see this being my new favorite "road trip" story.

Incredible Must Read
This story is an incredible blend of western and fantasy. It’s short and sweet but takes you on an incredible journey. If you ask me, this story ought to be followed up on and turned into a series. Fantastically written, interesting setting, and expertly composed by the authors. Excellently executed narration that perfectly fits the story. This is an amazing experience you won’t regret listening to.

I loved this Wild, Wild Fantasy!
Take an episode of Wild Wild West (tv show) where a man with a quick draw and a six shooter is sometimes the only law people respect! Then add a Righteous Paladin ridin' into the town of Dead Acre, to smite the Damned, and well... you've got the picture!
The book is a fun, quick read/listen, and I found that Roger Clark was simply the perfect narrator to portray our protagonist!

Dead Acre
By: Rhett C. Bruno, Jaime Castle
Narrated by: Roger Clark
This was a freebie from the author's newsletter! Both the book and the Audible book was free!(Audible was free with my Audible plus)
I really loved this wild west fantasy with an undead main character that died doing right, although he was an outlaw. Now working for the White Throne (Heaven), he goes to handle supernatural crimes where his handler tells him to.
He ends up in a town called Dead Acres, lots of action happens here! Love the main character and the whole premise of the book! I hope this is just the prequel of many more books to come!
The narrator in the Audible version was great!

Grab a whiskey and enjoy a camp fire tale
I've found myself wanting more stories like this. It's short, to the point, and told a way that makes me feel like I'm sitting across from an old gunslinger, cradling a whiskey paid for with a wild tale from a past he's not quite sure is his own anymore. The story itself isn't really anything special. It's simple in a way that most good stories are, memorable, easy listening and entertaining. The narration, in my opinion, is perfect for this story. I always liked Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, so hearing Roger Clark pretty much reprise his role as a jaded gunslinger was pretty awesome. Probably won't (and to be fair, probably shouldn't) win any prizes but I enjoyed this story far too much to start nit picking.

Great weird western book
This is a great weird western novel combining the western/supernatural genres brilliantly. The lead character is fantastic and the writers bring an edge to the story. My only complaint is that it was over too soon and I wanted the story to keep going. Hopefully this will be the first of many tales involving Crowley

"Not quite alive but not quite dead."
Crowther, an outlaw shot dead in the execution of a good dead, is given the chance to redeem himself by the White Throne, going where he is sent by the ghostly, but beautiful, handler. His job? To seek out that which is profane and make it right. Arriving in Dead Acres, where the local cobbler has gone missing and graves have been desicrated, his body, normally unable to feel either pleasure or pain, is able to detect the close presence of an Hell Mouth. Something is very wrong in Dead Acres.Sent
A wild west, fantasy, supernatural thriller, Read Acres is a quick (three and one half hours) read packed full of character, atmosphere and excitement, especially of the more than human kind. With both Rhett C.Bruno and Jamie Castle as it's co-authors, it is both imaginative in conception and beautifully written, oozing with visuals for the mind. It is also exceptionally well performed by Roger Clark who, as Crowther, relates all that happens in the first person, giving us the full story through the ex-outlaw's eyes. With a deeply accented, drawling voice which, nevertheless, is still clear and well modulated, the reading brilliantly conveys character and is filled with emotional impact.Sent
So much packed into this un-put-downable relatively short read. My deep thanks to Aethon books for freely gifting me with a complimentary copy of Dead Acre, at my request. It is fun, and heartily recommended to all, even those not usually fond of fantasy or westerns. It combines, and exceeds, both. And this reader, I'm sure, is not alone in hoping that Dead Acre is not a lone novella but the first of an exceptional new series.
