Story
Seeking peace and safety after a hard childhood, Leah marries Judah, a strong and gentle man, and for the first time in her life Leah believes she can rest easily. But the land is ruled by Antiochus IV, descended from one of Alexander the Great's generals, and when he issues a decree that all Jews are to conform to Syrian laws upon pain of death, devout Jews risk everything to follow the law of Moses. Judah's father resists the decree, igniting a war that will cost him his life. But before dying, he commands his son to pick up his sword and continue the fight - or bear responsibility for the obliteration of the land of Judah. Leah, who wants nothing but peace, struggles with her husband's decision - what kind of God would destroy the peace she has sought for so long?

The tale begins in Dark Age Britain, a land where Arthur has been banished and Merlin has disappeared, where a child-king sits unprotected on the throne, where religion vies with magic for the souls of the people. It is to this desperate land that Arthur returns, a man at once utterly human and truly heroic: a man of honor, loyalty, and amazing valor; a man who loves Guinevere more passionately than he should; a man whose life is at once tragic and triumphant.

Publisher's Summary
In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a man named Benaiah is searching for a fresh start in life. He has joined a band of soldiers led by a warlord named David, seeking to bury the past that refuses to leave him. Their ragged army is disgruntled and full of reckless men. Some are loyal to David, but others are only with him for the promise of captured wealth. While the ruthless and increasingly mad King Saul marches hopelessly against the powerful Philistines, loyal son Jonathan in tow, the land of the Hebrew tribes has never been more despondent - and more in need of rescue.
Over the course of ten days, from snowy mountain passes to sword-wracked battlefields, Benaiah and his fellow mercenaries must call upon every skill they have to survive and establish the throne for David - if they don’t kill each other first. Day of War brings to life the exploits of the Mighty Men of Israel, a rag-tag band of disgruntled warriors on the run with David, the soon-to-be King. Their legendary deeds are recorded in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11.

Praise and Arrows
Cliff Graham tells the story of King David using the stories of his Mighty Men using scripture as the foundation and his research on ancient Hebrew fighting tactics. The story is told from the perspective of his soldiers and it really lays out the importance of having a band of brothers.

Nice Perspective on old stories
What made the experience of listening to Day of War the most enjoyable?
I liked the detail and the way it brought new light to the story of Kind David.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Can't really say.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked the voice it was strong.
I would have like to hear this one in drama style different voices to help separate characters better.
If you could take any character from Day of War out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Probably none, I don't imagine they would have good table manners not sure that was what warriors worried about.
Any additional comments?
I hope they do make a movie of this one as I read about. I think it's a good story for visuals.

LOVED IT!
Would you listen to Day of War again? Why?
Absolutely! There is so much there. So many truths to pick up you just can't get it all on one listen.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Day of War?
For me it was how the author addresses the "anointing" or the "covering" of God. Although I am familiar with it, he put it in a far different form that really opened my eyes.
Which character – as performed by Stefan Rudnicki – was your favorite?
Benaiah. He is a personal favorite of mine from the Bible and one of the reasons I got the book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really. It was just solid all the way. But if the book is no good or just "ok", I don't listen to it again. I just finished book 2 & can't wait to start again.
Any additional comments?
I don't think I could watch the movie but I think the author did a good job of communicating the violence of war without going over the top. Let's face it, swords, arrows, spears, javelins are rather messy. I enjoyed it though.

Paints exciting details to an epic biblical story
If you could sum up Day of War in three words, what would they be?
Enthralling eye opener
What did you like best about this story?
I really liked the pacing of the story with a good balance between raw action and more thoughtful conversations and descriptive sections. From how I read the Bible, the author did very good in staying biblical.
If you could rename Day of War, what would you call it?
David - a brutal, heartbroken, God fearing leader.

I feel so blessed to have found this book . With over 500 books in my library I have never been introduced to a book that takes such literature to such an endless scope. All the while knowing that there was a boundry. That boundry is only the best selling book of all time. The Bible.

It's a good production and the story is good. It's a bit monotone in the sense that there is only one feel to the story. It is gritty and straight forward. I enjoyed it but it isn't one of my favorite books.
